Marilyn Simpson Obituary

Marilyn Simpson

September 21, 1932 - October 23, 2023

Marilyn passed away peacefully with her children by her side. She was secure in her belief that she would be with her Lord, now and forever.

She has now joined her husband, Jim, who preceded her in death in 2021. Jim was her high school sweetheart, and they married in 1952, two years after they graduated from Waterville High School. It was a good decision, and they were inseparable since. Marilyn and Jim were very proud of the children their marriage produced, Sue (Ray) Millenbaugh, Mary (Randy) Breymaier, Jim (Jan) Simpson, and Michael Simpson. Marilyn said, "We believe our six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren are well worth the few stresses we had raising our own."

Marilyn's parents were Harry and Lillian (Gruber) Shepler. She also has a younger brother, Harry; and younger sister, Rev. Karen, who preceded her in death.

Marilyn spent all but two years of her life in the Waterville area. For over 20 years Marilyn was the Executive Secretary of the Joseph L. Wolcott Scholarship Fund. She was thrilled when she heard of the successes of the young people who touched her life, and her relationships with her coworkers were special.

Marilyn was active in Waterville United Methodist Church, and other local organizations. She loved camping and vacations with the family, square dancing with her doting husband, and had a keen interest in researching the family genealogy. She also had a passion for the Toledo Symphony, participated in a local Profit and Pleasure group, and her book club. She was also an ardent supporter of the Waterville library. She passed on to her children and grandchildren her love for family, zany antics, and her appreciation to question and learn at every opportunity. Marilyn was a loving and welcoming soul. She will be missed greatly by her family, friends, and those that came to know her.

A memorial service will be held to celebrate Marilyn's life on Saturday, November 18, 2023, at Waterville United Methodist Church, 7715 Waterville Monclova Road, with a visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m., with a luncheon to follow. Pastor Teresa Wenrick will officiate.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Peinert-Dunn Funeral Home, 7220 Dutch Road, Waterville, Ohio 43566.

Memorial contributions may be given to Waterville United Methodist Church or the Lucas County Library.

I worked with Marilyn for a very short time in the early 70's. The picture of her looks the same as she did then. She was such a nice person I never forgot her. I'm sure she IS in Heaven.
