James Howard Obituary

Howard, James M. LAKE KATRINE James M. Howard, 80 of Lake Katrine, N.Y., passed away unexpectedly on May 11, 2022, at his home. Born on March 24, 1942, in Syracuse, he was the son of the late George M. and Arlene L. Howard. A horticultural enthusiast and a graduate of Farmingdale University, Jim operated, The Garden Shoppe, in Delmar, Guilderland and Rexford locations for 16 years. He relocated to Fishkill and spent the rest of his working life as a buyer with Pascack Sales Inc., in Blackwood, N.J. In his retirement years, he enjoyed working at Adams Fairacres in Poughkeepsie and spending his summers in Belgrade, Maine on Salmon Lake. Known for his talented gardening and landscaping skills, he also enjoyed fishing on his bass boat, feeding the birds and eating lobster. He is survived by his son, Greg Howard and his spouse Paul Corrado, of Catskill; a daughter, Susan Howard of Hurley; and grandchildren, Sarah (Reggie) Beliveau of Hyde Park, Jaimey Strauch of Voorheesville, Matthew Strauch of Worcester, N.Y., and Ryan Howard (Kaylyn) of Richmond, Va. Also surviving him are his sisters-in-law, Judy Haven of Syracuse and Dottie Howard of Central Square, N.Y.; and his brother-in-law, Fred Gifford of Dallas, Texas. On May 12, 2022, in Richmond, Va., his first great-grandson, Grant Markham Howard, was born. Jim also had some wonderful friends whom he loved to spend time with including Doug Murray, Poughkeepsie and Jan Austin, Pat and Tom Davis at Salmon Lake in Maine. He was predeceased by his wife of 49 years, June A. Howard; and his brother, Robert Howard. Cremation will take place in the Wiltwyck Crematorium in Kingston under the direction of the Joseph Leahy Funeral Home and burial will be in the Liverpool Village Cemetery in Liverpool, N.Y. at the convenience of the family.
