Elizabeth Robinson "Whiz" Harris

Elizabeth Harris Obituary

HARRIS, Elizabeth "Whiz" Robinson, 67, died November 4th in her home in Irvington, VA following a long illness. Whiz had a good soul and was loved by many friends and family. At her request, no service will be held, and her family will spread her ashes over Carter's Creek.

Whiz was born in Roanoke, VA to Hiter and Libby Harris, moving to Richmond as an infant. She immensely enjoyed her days at Collegiate School and graduated in 1975 as an academic and social star. After graduating from Hollins College in 1979, she followed in her father's footsteps to New York to begin a long career in banking. She worked at Chemical Bank for over seven years at which time she continued her banking career in Richmond. Over time, she was gradually pulled to the Northern Neck and moved her career to full-time philanthropic development as the Director of Development at Rappahannock Westminster-Canterbury. While there, she not only served her community but also gained many friendships.

Whiz loved many things and people - the River, her lifelong friends, the Irvington community, and Tutty - but the one love was her twin sister Mary. They were one-of-a-kind residing in two people. They could finish each other's thoughts, swapped places in grade school (much to their teacher's chagrin), and once traded the exact same birthday card with the exact same message inside. Her body may be gone but those memories will remain.

She is survived by her twin sister Dr. Mary Harris of Baltimore, MD, her brother Hiter Harris III of Richmond, VA (Jil Harris), and her nephew and nieces Hiter Harris IV (Noor Harris) of Charlotte, NC, Tyler Harris Rose (Tim Rose) of Alexandria, VA, and Katie Harris Storer (Peter Storer) of New York and their son Henry Storer. She was preceded in death by Hiter Harris Jr. and Libby Harris.

Whiz would appreciate being honored by a contribution to your favorite charity, but if you have trouble choosing, Rappahannock Westminster-Canterbury, Hollins University, or The Collegiate School of Richmond would be fine choices. Rejoice that Whiz is looking down on us with a big smile and no pain....but still dreaming of the River.

Whiz and I were roommates at Hollins College one year. She was smart, witty, and so much fun to be with. We both went on the Hollins Abroad program in Paris, France. One afternoon in Paris we decided to take the train to Versailles and have a picnic in the gardens there. This was totally prohibited. Walking outside of the walkways accessed there was totally prohibited, so bringing wine and cheese and sitting in the woods to dine was crazy. We did it. So many more memories. My heart goes out to the entire Harris family. May she rest in peace!!

Whiz was my roommate when we studied abroad in Paris at Hollins College. She was so smart and we laughed a lot! I am sending love to her sister, Mary and her brother.

Whiz was a school classmate of mine at Collegiate from Kindergarten thru 12th grade. As an elementary school student I just worshiped her!! She was beautiful , smart and nice!! I was never great friends with her because she was one of the "cool" kids and I was not but I so adored her. I am so saddened by her pre-mature passing and it saddens me I had not seen her in so many years. Sending love to Mary and Hiter.
