Ann Marie Borowski, 84, of Sturges, died Friday morning at Hospice of the Sacred Heart in Dunmore after an illness. She was the wife of Edmund Borowski. They had been married for 64 years.
Born in Sturges, daughter of the late Stephen and Helen Hricko Zenzel, she was a graduate of Archbald High School, and a devoted member of SS. Cyril & Methodius Ukrainian Catholic Church in Olyphant. She worked for many years in the clerical and billing department at Billig Shoe Company in Peckville, as well as other various local businesses, including the Ramada Inn in Clarks Summit, prior to her retirement.
She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, and devoted friend. She loved baking and cooking, and hosted many family gatherings through the years. She enjoyed polkas and, in her earlier years, she followed many local polka bands. She also enjoyed trips to the casinos, going out for breakfast with her husband at different restaurants, and spending time with family and friends, especially her grandchildren, who were the "apples of her eye."
In addition to her husband, she is survived by one son, Stephen Borowski, of Clearwater, Fla..; one daughter, Lisa Lowe and husband, Joseph, of Newton Ransom, Pa.; four grandchildren, Brett, Nicholas, Lauren and Samantha; two sisters-in-law, Barbara Yanoski, of South Carolina; and Sandra Zenzel, of Florida; and several nieces and nephews; and numerous cousins.
She was preceded in death by one brother, James Zenzel.
The funeral will be Friday at 9:30 a.m. from the John J. Turko & Sons Funeral Home, 402 Boulevard Ave., Dickson City, with a funeral Divine Liturgy at 10 a.m. in SS. Cyril & Methodius Church, River Street, Olyphant, to be celebrated by the Rev. Nestor Iwasiw, pastor. Interment will follow in St. Cyril's Cemetery, Peckville.
The viewing will be Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. There will be a Parastas service at 6:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Ann Marie's name to St. Joseph's Center.
