Marilyn Larson Obituary

Marilyn Ashton Larson, 87, of Redlands, California, passed away on October 24, 2023. Marilyn was a vivacious and happy person who lived her life enveloped in the gospel of Jesus Christ. She had a tremendous love for her family and friends and was extremely generous, giving all of herself to her church callings and service therein. Marilyn often said that her reason for living was for her family. She was a strong influence and the glue that held them all together. Marilyn was born on September 14, 1936, in Los Angeles, California, to William Fidkin Ashton and Ethel Bird Ashton. She was preceded in death by her father, mother, and her beloved husband of 48 years, Lloyd Anthone Larson. Marilyn is survived by her brothers, William Ashton and Gerald Ashton, her children, Ty Larson, Wayne Larson, David Larson, Todd Larson, Scott Larson, Sharilyn Christensen, Marc Larson, and Sara Baddley, as well as her 38 grandchildren and 55 great grandchildren. Throughout her life, Marilyn served as a dedicated housewife and grandmother. She found joy in volunteering for service countless times in her church and community. Marilyn's faith was an important part of her life, she regularly attended The Church of JESUS CHRIST of Latter Day Saints each week. In her free time, Marilyn enjoyed reading, music, playing the piano, talking and giving advice. She had a love for the Redlands Symphony and getting her nails done. Her grandchildren were also one of her favorite hobbies. She loved planning "cousin camps" at her house and spoiling them with constant love and goodies. She was the best Pomegranate jam maker ever known and willingly taught others how to make it too with the giant pomegranates she grew at her house. She baked whole wheat bread and enjoyed cooking dinner most nights of the week for her huge family. Memorial services for Marilyn Ashton Larson will be held on November 4th at The Church of JESUS CHRIST of Latter Day Saints located at 640 S. Center Street, Redlands, CA 92373. The services will be conducted by the Emerson Bartlett Memorial Chapel, located in Redlands, CA 92373. Marilyn Ashton Larson will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Her legacy of love, faith, and devotion to her family will forever be cherished.

Our sincere prayers to the Larson and Ashton families. Marilyn was a force of nature and will be missed by many. Tony, however, was a happy man to see Marilyn enter into an eternity with him and other family. Sweet memories!!

Dear Larson Family,

What can I say except that your mother's services were wonderful and that they were a worthy tribute. I love Marilyn so much! As the tail end of the Bird cousins, I could easily have been beneath her notice, but she made me feel more like her only cousin. Her laugh could light up a room, or a house, or the whole heavens!
Thank you for your music and talks. They brought images of her to my mind so forcefully. I felt her love and humor and yours too. I wish I had been able to attend in person, but am grateful for Zoom.
Much love to all of you.
We know where she is, and we'll see her again. Praise be!

Love,
Julie Bird Waters
