SMSgt (ret) Edwin Lee Mikulecky
December 30, 1932 - October 18, 2023
Sacramento, California - Ed was born in Linn, Kansas to Lewis L. and Edna Grace Mikulecky.
He passed away October 18, 2023, in Sacramento.
Ed is preceded in death by his parents, wife Nancy, son Chuck, brother Roger and grandson Chris McFarland. He is survived by his wife of 43 years Laura, son Dave (Cindy), daughter Wendy McFarland (Harvey) and brother Ronald "Gene" (Liz). He is survived by his stepchildren Laura Archer, Linda Reinstein, Linell Mohun (Brooke) and Charlie Hammond, II. Ed is also survived by his 8 grandchildren, Kelly, Megan, Clark, Hugh, Jeremiah, Spencer, Emily and Natalie and 16 great grandchildren.
SMSgt Mikulecky began his long USAF military career in 1950 during the Korean War and continued in the military during the Vietnam War where he served in the Strategic Air Command initially as a Policeman and ultimately as a Forward Air Controller. SMSgt Mikulecky retired from military duty in 1971 after 21 years, but continued sharing military stories his entire life which showed his love for his duty.
Ed was a private pilot and owned several light aircraft. He spent many happy moments in the air over his lifetime. He owned multiple businesses in Southern California, including an auto repair shop where both his sons worked by his side and a donut shop where his daughter also worked by his side. After moving to Northern California, Ed owned several more businesses with his wife, Laura including, All Star Insulation, a local battery shop, Baker Boy and Coffee Shop in downtown Sacramento and more recently a Real Estate partnership with his wife.
Ed lived a long life and was busy building, solving and executing mechanical solutions for everyday household dilemmas. The family continues to be amazed at the discovery of his homemade designs. Ed was always ready to lend a hand wherever needed. Edwin Lee Mikulecky will be deeply missed by his wife, family and many friends.
The family would like to thank the UC Davis Hospice program for their excellent caring support of Ed and his family.
Memorial Service:
Fremont Presbyterian Church, 5770 Carlson Dr, Sacramento, CA, Saturday, November 11, 2023 (Veteran's Day), 11:00 am. Reception following at church.
A private service, including military honors, will be held at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery, Dixon, CA Tuesday, November 14, 2023, 2:00 pm for immediate family members.
