Gary A. Rasmusson
RAPID CITY - Gary A. Rasmusson, 72, loving husband, proud father, grandfather, uncle and friend to many, passed on July 14, 2022 at Monument Health in Rapid City.
Gary was born November 4, 1949 in Rapid City, SD to Arthur W. and Eva M. (Slater) Rasmusson. He attended grade school, junior high and high school in Rapid City and graduated from Black Hills State University with a degree in business.
On August 9, 1975, Gary married Dorothy (Dot) Fricke. They were blessed with two children, Erica and Kyle.
Following college, he worked for Robbins & Stearns Lumber Company in estimating and sales He was a Shareholder and Director until their closure in the early 1980's. He then went into business for himself in construction and land development, a career he thoroughly enjoyed. Gary's development work from 1984 through 2019 enhanced south Rapid City.
Gary had a passion for outdoor activities to include skiing, hunting, fishing and boating with snow skiing his ultimate favorite. He loved people, conversation and could talk to a total stranger and become friends. His greatest joy was his children, Erica and Kyle, and the association he had with their friends. He was the dad that volunteered for any activity his children were involved in.
He was a member of South Canyon Lutheran Church and many professional and civic organizations throughout his life.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Art and Eva Rasmusson; sister, Roberta Thompson; nephew, Craig Thompson; in-laws Henry and Jean Fricke; and, brother-in-laws, Bill Thompson and Craig Fricke.
Gary is survived by his wife, Dot; children Erica (Jacob) Collins; Kyle (Dana) Rasmusson; grandchildren: Caleb, Colton, Christian, Malia, Amara and Connor; nephews Kevin Thompson, Rick (Mary Jo) Thompson, Jason (Becky) Minnick and Jeff (Kathy) Minnick; nieces Kim (Chuck) Schneider and Tara Minnick; sister-in-law Tracy (Gary) Fritzler and brother-in-law John Fricke.
Gary's memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, July 21, 2022 at South Canyon Lutheran Church in Rapid City. A memorial has been established to the youth ministry of South Canyon Lutheran Church.
