William Murray Obituary

Murray, William "Bill", - 86, of Cape May, born on October 25, 1937 in Philadelphia, PA, passed away peacefully on October 29, 2023 at Lankenau Hospital in Wynnewood, PA. He was a beloved father, uncle, and fiancé, known for his intelligence, friendliness, and interesting personality that made him a joy to be around. Bill was born and raised in Philadelphia, where he began his lifelong journey of learning. His academic prowess was evident from his time at Central High School and continued through his extensive education at the University of Pennsylvania, where he earned both his B.S. and M.S. in electrical engineering. Bill furthered his education at Villanova University School of Law, from which he graduated in 1973. Bill's professional career was as illustrious as his educational background. After Penn, he spent time as an electrical engineer with both GE and RCA, before devoting 35 years to practicing intellectual property law, specializing in the acquisition, evaluation, licensing, and enforcement of intellectual property rights. His expertise spanned various areas of technology including computer hardware, software, integrated circuits, and medical electronics. Bill was admitted to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office, and in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. He held esteemed positions in several professional associations, including past president of the Philadelphia Intellectual Property Law Association and the Pennsylvania Bar Institute. His contributions to the field were recognized when he was named one of Pennsylvania's top intellectual property lawyers by Chambers and Partners. Outside of his professional life, Bill served as a veteran of the Navy, a testament to his dedication to his country. He was also an adjunct professor of law at Villanova University School of Law, sharing his knowledge and passion with the next generation of legal minds. Despite his professional and academic achievements, Bill never lost sight of the joy of life. He was a private pilot, an avid biker, and a sailing enthusiast. He was a proud member of the Corinthian Yacht Club and the Cottager Association of Cape May. His commitment to his community was evident in his active membership in the Fire Police of the City of Cape May, his service on the Zoning Board, and his roles as former Deputy Mayor and City Council member. Bill is predeceased by his wife Judith A. Murray and his sister Dorothy A. Hirsch, and his nephew Gregory. Bill is dearly missed and forever loved by his son Jack and his wife Nancy, his fiancée Mary Scott, his nephews Jeffrey, Tommy, and his niece Geraldine. Each of them will remember Bill for his intelligence, friendliness, and the interesting stories he would tell. Bill Murray was a man of many talents and achievements, but above all, he was a man of character. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him. His legacy will live on in the many lives he touched, both personally and professionally.

My sincere condolence for the passing of Bill. I had the pleasure of getting to know Bill while painting his house last year. He was a very interesting character. Very kind and funny. I know Cape May was a better community because of Bill. He will be missed but I'm glad I was lucky enough to have met him. My deepest sympathy to his family!

To Jack and all of Bill´s family and fiancé: May the Lord wrap his arms tightly around all of you in your loss. I had the privilege of being Bill´s legal assistant when he was the IP Department Head! I will miss seeing him at Duane Morris holiday party. With sympathy, Chris Lambriodes
