Theresa "Terry" Mary O'Kane
QUEENSBURY - Terry passed away peacefully, at the age of 93, on Saturday, October 21, 2023. The daughter of Mary (Surlis) and Patrick Finn, she was born in New York City. She graduated from St. Michael's Academy High School and School of Business Practice in 1948.
Terry married John O'Kane on May 14, 1955 at Our Lady of Queen of Peace in Kew Gardens, Queens. She was an Executive Secretary in New York City before retiring to raise her family.
In Uniondale, Long Island, she was a 4H leader and a home confraternity teacher for St. Martha's Church. She was a strong supporter of her children's involvement in St. Martha's Folk Group and Youth Ministry. Terry held posts for the Ladies Axillary of the Knights of Columbus and led several successful fundraisers.
In Queensbury, Terry graduated from Adirondack Community College and SUNY Plattsburgh where she continued graduate courses.
She worked part time for ACC as an English tutor. During those years she also managed to write several articles for The Chronicle, the local paper she loved. She was a member of the Friends for Crandall Library and organized many "Books Sandwiched in Lectures".
Terry was a communicant of Our Lady of the Annunciation Catholic Church in Queensbury and had been a Eucharistic Minister to the homebound for many years. She was a member of the Rosary Society and enjoyed participation, with her husband in the Bible Study Group. She also volunteered her time for SMA, now SMSA Catholic School.
She loved her family and took special pleasure in reading two 400+ page non-fiction history books a week. She kept up with world events and enjoyed attending the theater and movies with John.
John predeceased her on May 8, 2020, six days short of 65 years of happy marriage. Besides husband John and her parents, Terry is predeceased by grandson, Christopher, her sister, Mary, her brothers: Patrick, John, and James.
Survivors include children: Patricia O'Kane, Christine Lisk, Rev. John O'Kane; son-in-law, Brian Lisk; grandson, Matthew Lisk; her best friend, Serena Rucker; and many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends may call Friday, October 27, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Annunciation Catholic Church, 448 Aviation Rd., Queensbury NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 p.m. following calling hours at the church. Terry will be laid to rest at Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville on Monday, October 30, 2023 at 10:30 a.m.
The family is grateful for all the medical care and love she received throughout the years including from Drs. David Cunningham, William Tedesco and the staff of Irongate Family Practice. Her generous neighbors who always looked out for her. Terry also appreciated the care she received at care at the House of the Good Shepherd. As well the Terrace at Glen Meadows and Pines Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation. The family is especially grateful to her best friend and home care nurse, Serena for all the tender care, affection and love that extended her life. Terry always looked forward to Serena's dog Moo's sweet visits.
Donations in Terry's honor can be made to the Our Lady of Annunciation Church, Queensbury, St. Isaac Jogues Parish, Chestertown, St. James Church, North Creek or Blessed Sacrament Church, Bolton Landing.
