John King Obituary

John Campbell King, (aka John C), 55, peacefully passed away at home on July 8, 2022. John was born on October 10, 1966 to Arthur Ward King, Sr. & Patricia Ball Meakin, in Norfolk, VA. He was a graduate of Princess Anne High School and the University of Florida, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Finance. John worked for Capital One (and prior affiliates) for 30 years.

John was truly one-of-a-kind and well-loved by all who knew him. While he was a sports enthusiast, John had a particular passion for golf. He was also known for being a huge Florida Gators fan. John was wonderfully kind, fun, and hilarious. He offered unconditional love to his friends and family. Being around him simply made life better. John may be gone from our sight, but he will never, ever be forgotten.

John is survived by the love of his life and wife of nearly 28 years, Kimberly A. King, whom he met on Labor Day in 1979. They fostered enduring love, trust, and respect between them that lasted their entire marriage. Their love story is one for the ages.

John is predeceased by his father, Arthur Ward King, Sr. He is survived by his mother, Patricia Ball Meakin; brothers Arthur Ward King, Jr. (Lenna), W. Alan King (Connie); In-laws (loves) W. Taylor & Rena Johnson; sisters-in-law, Jennifer L. Berlingo, Jacqueline J. Gerhardt (Ray), and Cameron L. Johnson; brother-in-law, Craig Berlingo; nieces and nephews: Ashley Restivo (James), AJ King, Jenna King, Taylor Gerhardt, Griffin Gerhardt, Novella Berlingo, Justin (Rachel) and Lucas Delitis; grandnieces, Lauren and Campbell Restivo; and Goddaughters, Lauren DeLoatche and Nola Stone. He is also survived by numerous lifelong friends and many he considered "framily."

John was inspired by Jim Valvano's motto, "Don't give up. Don't ever give up." As John was devoted to helping unhoused people, in lieu of flowers, please consider offering a donation in John's honor to a charity of your choice that aids people without homes. A celebration of life will be held from 2:30pm to 5pm on Sunday, July 24, 2022, at Cavalier Golf & Yacht Club, Virginia Beach, VA. Feel free to wear Florida orange and blue. "Go Gators!"

I just learned that John had passed, and I am deeply saddened by this. I hadn´t spoken to John since we were both in Gainesville at University of Florida. That was an odd coincidence because I knew him best when were 4, 5, and 6. He lived across the street from me on Anson Lane, and he was my main playmate. We moved away but kept in touch with his family and visited frequently throughout my mid-teens. Then, we didn´t see them as often, and I lost touch with John. Then, one day as I was driving on campus at UF, I got behind a Beetle (I think) that had Virginia Beach plates with the words "UF GOLF." I thought it would be an amazing coincidence. My mom called his, and we learned that it wasn´t his car, but it was his friend´s car and he was indeed at UF. It was nice to reconnect and catch up. We didn´t see each other often, and we didn´t keep in touch, but I´ve thought of him often through the years and wondered if I might find a way to get in contact again to see how he´s doing. That´s how I discovered this page. He was my first friend and he has and never will be forgotten. It sounds like he lived a full life filled with love, and I am glad to know that.

This photo is probably Nov 1970 at King Family Reunion. Center is my Papa, he's surrounded by his grandchildren and great grandchildren. The two young'ns on the ends are of me and my (same age) cousin John Campbell King and neither of us were in to taking the photo. LOL

Earlier this year I came across the same photo, looking for something else and laughed. A few days after, having lunch with my mom, she told me John passed away 2022. He and I only saw each other at the family reunions, we were not close but in our early ages, we were each others playmate at the reunions. Sad to know he's gone.

Mrs. Kim thank you for sharing John C with us. That C stood for so many things: C-Note, Calm, Cool, Charisma, Caring, Concerned Courageous, Counselor, Coach, Candid, Compelling, Compliant- lol , Composure, Consummate and Campbell etc....

We had so many good times and laughs from him wearing what he called "a Kim shirt" to our teams favorite work band Damn Straight. He is a company Legend from the mean streets of Thalia. I'll miss him dearly. I wish the King family strength, peace and many blessing.

John and his family lived on my street when we were kids. We started Kindergarten together and were friends throughout elementary, junior high and high school. Even though we lost touch after high school, I always had fond memories of John being such a caring and funny guy. He was always the life of the party and everyone loved him. He will be missed!

I have worked with John C only about a year and a half and he completely captured my heart. His love for his wife Kim and the Florida Gators truly was special. I always thought my husband and I had an amazing love for one another but to hear him speak of Kim, was nothing short of immeasurable. Often we would chat through health challenges that we both shared and quickly I learned, John C was not a man to give up, he was a fighter! The C stood for Courageous!!!! He was a selfless person who cared more for the burden he may be on others than his own aches and pain. Words can't express the great pleasure it has been to have known such an amazing person and sweet, funny and happy soul. Rest in Peace my Friend ~ #GOGATORS

I worked with John for about 20 years. He was always engaging and fun to chat with. He and his wife share the same anniversary as my husband and I. So I always remembered to tell him anniversary on that day. He was very much a people person and loved to have what we call "drive by" conversations at work. He was smart and always passionate about ensuring things were done right by his associates. It was a pleasure knowing him and he will be greatly missed.
