Joseph Butler Obituary

Joseph Leonard Butler
Oct. 7, 1952 - June 18, 2022
Joseph Leonard Butler was born Oct. 7, 1952 in Portland, Ore.
He graduated from Clackamas high school in 1970 and in 1971 married Glenna Stone. Joe and Glenna lived in the Clackamas area and had two children, Brian J. Butler in 1973 and Lisa J. Butler in 1976. Joe left college in his second year to join the Oregon Air National Guard where he was vehicle mechanic working his way up to the rank of Master Sergeant where he assisted in supervising the mechanic division. In 1973 Joe began work for Cash and Carry/United Grocers. Joe began by stocking shelves, moving up to sales associate, assistance manager and then manager. He was integral in the opening of new stores for the company and instilled a culture of hard work, commitment and loyalty to his employees.
Joe and Glenna divorced in 1981, however they continued a caring and respectful relationship for their children, working together to ensure that they raised their children in loving homes.
In 1982 Joe married Judith Ann Morehouse in Portland and the two lived in their home in Clackamas for nearly 40 years. Judith brought two children to the marriage, Michelle Davis and Brian Davis. With a large family Joe made sure that he created memories by taking the family camping, spending time in the back yard grilling and swimming in the swimming pool and spending summers on the river water skiing behind his 18 foot Bayliner. Joe and Judith enjoyed traveling, especially internationally. They traveled to Mexico, Switzerland, England, Jamaica, Italy, Ireland, and Germany. After retirement they spent their years traveling to the beach and RV'ing in their pull trailer all over the northwest. The highlight of their retirement though was spending time and making memories with their grandchildren.
Joe and Judith eventually moved to Miramont Point Assisted Living in Clackamas where they lived until Joe's death June 18, 2022. The family wishes to acknowledge the thoughtful care that the staff of Miramont Pointe and Hospice provided to Joe. He is survived by his wife of nearly 40 years, Judith; his two brothers and their wives, Neal and Linda Butler and Richard and Tami Butler; his son and his wife, Brian and Amber Butler; and his daughter and her husband, Lisa and Michael McPhail; stepchildren, Michelle Davis and Brian Davis; three grandchildren, Jo Butler, Liam McPhail and Ethan Butler; and step-grandchildren, Tristan and Jason Ries. Joe was a member of New Hope Community Church.
There is no planned service, Joe chose to donate his body to science and his ashes will be spread at sea next year. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Oregon Food Bank.

Since no service, I just want to say the Butler family was a true blessing for our children to grow up in. Joe and Judy hosted many extended family gatherings; mostly in their beautiful back yard. What a joy to watch the cousins at the pool parties or to be entertained by the three Butler brothers´ wry & humorous interactions. They were still giving it up to the end and Joe was still taking it with a grin. He was so brave...surely God has a special heavenly home for him. A big applause to his devoted children-Lisa and Brian-for their loving care of their dad and Judy and their promise to
further honor their dad by continuing to care for their stepmom. So heartwarming to see such rare selflessness these days. Judy is a trooper-so positive in the midst of an extremely trying time-prayers for her as she awaits her time to join `her Joe´.
