Joseph McMeekin Obituary

McMeekin, Joseph

December 23, 1955 - September 20, 2023

Joe McMeekin was born in Columbus, Nebraska. His parents were Jim and Margie McMeekin, and he was the second of four boys. He is survived by his brothers Mike McMeekin (Margaret) and Ted. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Jim. Joe and his brothers all attended St. Bonaventure Elementary School and Scotus Central Catholic High School in Columbus. Joe was an excellent high school athlete. In football, he was a running back and placekicker. In track, Joe was a high jumper who qualified for the state championship track meet.

Shortly after high school, Joe began his long career with Union Pacific Railroad that took him to North Platte, NE, Greeley, CO, Houston, TX, and, eventually, Corpus Christi, TX.

Throughout his life, Joe was always surrounded with a network of good friends. The family is grateful to all those who shared in Joe's life. A celebration of life open house for family and friends will be held on Sunday, December 10, from 12 to 2 p.m. at Beacon Hills Restaurant in Aksarben Village.
