Timothy McCloskey Obituary

Timothy J. McCloskey
1982 - 2023
Timothy Joseph McCloskey, 41, of Brookfield, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, November 8th. The son of Ginette and Joseph McCloskey, he was born in New York City on January 22, 1982. He was the oldest of four boys.
"Slim" to some, "Mr. Tim" to others, but Tim to most, he spent a few years in New York, before moving to Brookfield, where he would spend the remainder of his life. Tim was an eight-time varsity letterman at Brookfield High, including four years of soccer, three with the swim team, and one with baseball.
His passion for soccer at a young age stayed with him through his freshman year in college at Western Connecticut State University. An avid sports fan, Tim pledged his sporting allegiance to the University of Michigan, the NY Knicks, NY Mets, NY Giants and Manchester United Football Club. His enthusiasm for these teams allowed him to experience them firsthand having seen Michigan play in the Big House, attending Opening Day for the Mets at the new Citi Field, and numerous outings to Madison Square Garden, Shea Stadium, and the Meadowlands. His passions did not end with sports, but rather was complimented by his love of music (and don't forget all those sneakers!). Known for creating mix tapes, CDs, and playlists for his friends and family, Tim's love of music also brought him to countless concerts, particularly his favorite; the Dave Matthews Band.
Tim suffered a spinal cord injury in a swimming accident in 2002. Though Tim's injury left him paralyzed for the remainder of his life, it was the furthest thing from defining him. Stronger than his love of sports and music, his love for his family and close friends, would carry him through many dark hours and those friendships only grew stronger. Following months of rehab, Tim was welcomed back to work at Country Kids Childcare of Brookfield where he had been working throughout high school. "Mr. Tim", as he was lovingly known by the many children that attended Country Kids, was an integral part of the organization.
Predeceased by Nana, Mimi and Uncle John, Tim leaves his grandfather Eric de Spirlet (Linda Dodd), parents Ginette and Joseph McCloskey, brothers Brian McCloskey (and his partner Tony Guerrera), Paul E. McCloskey (Kara Shaw) John A. McCloskey (Amanda Schneider), nephew Charles McCloskey, niece Isabella McCloskey, numerous aunts, uncles and a plethora of cousins.
The family will receive relatives and friends at Brookfield Funeral Home, located at 786 Federal Rd., Brookfield, on Wednesday, November 15, 2023, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday, November 16, 2023 at 10:00 AM at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, located at 1 Obtuse Hill Road, Brookfield.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The McCloskey Family Foundation for Spinal Cord Injury 30 Sullivan Farm Road New Milford, CT 06776.

This breaks my heart. My daughter went to Country Kids and knew Tim as both her counselor and colleague. What an amazing man and always wonderful with the kids.

Mr. Tim was not an integral part of Country Kids...he was Country Kids & Kids Club....we will NEVER be the same..& how fortunate for all those kids that did learn life lessons from Mr.Tim..dignity, patience & kindness..
All while riding on the back of his chair..
How unfortunate for the many
more kids that won't get to experience Mr.Tim
