Syl Turicchi Obituary

Syl Turicchi
March 15, 1945 - October 27, 2023
In memory of Syl William "Jimmy" Turicchi
Syl William "Jimmy" Turicchi, loving husband, father, brother and grandfather passed away on October 27, 2023, in Dallas, Texas. He was 78.
Syl was born on March 15, 1945 to Sylvio and Estella (Thielemann) Turicchi of Rosenberg, Texas. He grew up in Rosenberg with a close extended family.
Syl graduated from the University of Houston with a bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering in 1968. He then joined Union Carbide Corporation where he worked for 33 years leading various departments and operations. He left Union Carbide as a Senior General Manager and went to work briefly for AIChE, OSi Specialties, and Crompton Corporation before retiring.
In 1966 Syl married the love of his life, Karen Battarbee. Syl's career took them from Texas to Bethel and Ridgefield, Connecticut, Charleston, West Virginia and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Syl and Karen loved to travel and have spent wonderful times in many places around the world. They enjoyed fine dining, the performing arts and cruises. He followed his dreams and his curiosity about the world around him. He never lost his great sense of humor and was well known for his kindness, charisma and his storytelling. He would talk to anybody at any time. He also enjoyed golfing, reading, sudoku and doting over his granddaughters.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents (Willie and Nora Thielemann), aunts and uncles, Loraine and Herbert Tappe, Billy Stubblefield, Wylma and Ben Wehring, father-in-law Bertram Batterbee and sister-in-law Linda Battarbee.
Syl is survived by his wife of 57 years, Karen, daughter Michelle and granddaughter Haley, son Michael and wife Jessamyn and granddaughter Ava, his sister Suzanne of Arizona, Gary Wehring and wife Charity, Mike Wehring and wife Cheryl, mother-in-law Frances Battarbee, brother-in-law Randy Battarbee and wife Susan, brother-in-law Winston Battarbee, and his nieces and nephews, all of whom he loved dearly.
