Joyce (Eleanor) Lord Campbell
Joyce Lord Campbell, 89, of Harwich, crossed the threshold into heaven on Oct 10, 2021 following a long illness. Joyce was the beloved wife for 60 years to Robert Asa Campbell who preceded her in death, loving mother to Kimberly (Steven) Conner, Kathy (Charles) Coburn, Scott (Patricia) Campbell, Krista (David) Kerr, and Robert Campbell II. She was also the cherished "Munga" and grandma to 12 grandchildren: Christopher, Rebecca, Kyle, Lauren, Seth, Kalyn, Lindsay, Rachel, Theodore, Angela, Victoria, and Brendan; plus 14 great grandchildren. Joyce is also survived by her three sisters: Bonita Hayes, Marilyn Esposito, and Vanessa Simpson.
Joyce was born on Jan 16, 1932 in Hermon, Maine to Judson & Beatrice Lord. She grew up on a farm where she and her three sisters helped their father harvest vegetables to take to the local markets. She graduated from Hermon High School in 1949 and went on to Beal Business College where she graduated valedictorian with a secretarial degree. She also worked for several years at Bangor Savings Bank. Joyce met her husband, Bob, at Hermon Baptist Church in Maine where she played the organ. They married in 1956 and were together for over 60 years. They raised five children in New York, Pennsylvania, Illinois, and Massachusetts. She helped design their dream house on Long Pond in Cape Cod, MA where they lived for 45 years. While there, Joyce worked as the secretary at East Dennis Community Church and later at Leghorn Telepublishing Corporation.
At various times, Joyce enjoyed being a seamstress, playing piano/organ, and cooking her signature dishes for the family (turkey stew, American chop suey). Collecting angels was one of her joys and she was also an avid reader of health information. She made Christmases extra special with a large, savory turkey and mounded presents overflowing under the tree (later she added a second grandkids' tree). For several years, Joyce also helped buy and pack boxes for the Operation Christmas Child ministry. Some of her favorite sayings were "this too shall pass" and "my sufficiency has been sophonsified". Her last years of life were difficult as she struggled with dementia disease. She will be remembered as a nurturing mother, efficient secretary, and beloved Munga.
The family wants to express their sincere gratitude to Rosewood Manor Nursing Home and Broad Reach Hospice for their love and care.
Visitation will be held from 10-11 am on Sat, Oct 23 at Chapman Funeral Home, 678 Main Street, Harwich. A public graveside burial service will follow at Island Pond Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Samaritan's Purse, P.O. Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607
