Herman L. Abrams was born on July 28, 1963, in Toledo, Ohio to Lora Abrams and Dr. Alexander Abrams. He was the middle brother to Tony and Dana. Herman also known to his family as "Bunny", grew up in St. Paul and attended the St. Paul Public Schools.
He has always been an enthusiast for sports. In his junior high days, he was the school mascot the "Green Machine" winding up the crowds at Ramsey Junior High. You would have thought it was a professional game. He brought that energy everywhere he went. His mom often said, "he was like a bull in a China shop." His energy was infectious.
Herman moved between St. Paul, MN and Toledo, OH before making the Twin Cities his permanent home. But while in Ohio, Herman obtained his associate's degree from Ashland University. When he returned, he married Sandra Lewis. She and her children became his extended family. He and Sandra remained the closest of friends after they separated.
Family was very important to Bunny. He adored his children, and nothing made him happier than being a father. Equally, he loved his wife April fiercely. Excited to begin their lives together, the two were married on September 2, 2023. Their love was tried and true and will always remain. If you were to ask Herman, his wife and kids were the best part of him.
Besides the love for his wife April and kids, he loved his friends and the Vikings World Order (VWO). It was there that he met the love of his life, April. As a devout member of the VWO Marine Division, Herman acquired another name, "Papa Smurf." He was a fixture at MN Vikings home tailgating. It brought him joy to be with his "people" during game time. If he called you a friend, then you too had become family. It was with the VWO that he participated in many charitable events like the Polar Plunge, Veteran Homes and the Ronald McDonald House.
Herman is preceded in death by his mother Lora Abrams, father Dr. Alexander Abrams, brother Anthony "Tony" Reed and niece Don-Shay Hardy.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted wife April; children Kendall, Rachel, Anthony, Reed, Paxton and Finlay; sister, Dana; Cousin Gary Williams, Sister-in-law: Gina WalkerReed, Nieces; Ariane, Marci and Tomyra, Nephew: Shaun (Talia), Bonus brothers; Wayne Liggons and John Dorsey, the VWO and a host of other relatives and friends. We loved him, but God loved him best.
A funeral service will take place at Christ Temple Apostolic Church on Saturday, October 5th at 3 PM with a visitation one hour prior. 2651 Hamline Ave. N, Roseville, MN.
A livestream will be available via zoom.

I'm remembering my friend Herman Abrams whose life will be celebrated tomorrow, October 6. One of my first memories of him is when we lobbied at the State Capital in St. Paul for the Minnesota Vikings to remain in Minnesota and to build the US Bank Stadium in Minneapolis. I often visited with him at tailgates for the Vikings, TV tapings for Rod Simons "Game On!" show, at Viking World Order events and on Facebook. I was happy to introduce him to former Minnesota Vikings quarterback Tommy Kramer when I was his agent. And, I loved giving Herman a collectible Papa Smurf drinking glass from Hardees I found in Bartlesville, OK from the early 1980s. Peace to Herman's family, friends and our fellow members in Viking World Order.

My favorite memory of Herman was when we went to training camp in Mankato. Just watching him with his Son Anthony, just filled my heart. Anthony was in his terrible two´s and was just not feeling it that day. Smurf guided his son in such a gentle, yet firm and loving way. It made me smile as Anthony went from cranky to giggling in no time flat. It just melted my heart.

Herman was a friend you could count on, someone who was always there to share a smile, to give a great hug, and was a genuine, loving person. If there was anything you needed, Herman was always there. He was a loving family man, and treated everyone he met with courtesy, decency and respect. Biggest Vikings fan I knew. I´m going to miss his genuineness and his gentle soul.

I met Herman on an app called Marco polo around 2021 and always remember when he came on you see the spiked coffee and the bacon sizzling in the pan , such a laid back easy going fella , one of life's true good people , we all had so many laughs on live video calls ans silly memes poking fun at each other , I'd also speak to him in the middle of the night my (uk) time and show him historical buildings or landmarks around London via Marco , i just wish I'd actually got to meet him

Sleep well my friend

Where do I start. Smurf was always so welcoming and shared the best advice. He judged no one! I cherish every moment we had the opportunity to share. I'll always remember how much he despised Fireball and had to bring Hennessy for me to try. He was an amazing man, father, and friend. Miss you brother! Until we meet again.

November , 2016...The year and the many special moments that Mama and I will never forget. My brother (Sir Monkster) , had passed away just months before . The VWO raised money to fly mama and I back To knight us into the VWO in honor of my brother . David (diggz) and Jen (PAC) Garza, we´re beyond gracious to give us their front row seats in the brand new stadium that year . The Vikings played against the cardinals .

I remember sitting there, all of a sudden you heard this deep voice saying " Hey! Monksters sister! Get in here and give me a hug! " Then, we took a picture . From almost that moment on he was Hermie to me . That´s what I´ve called him for the past 8 yrs. He was loved by so very many . Hermie enjoy being with Jesus and Froggy! Until we see you again You are greatly loved and more than missed .
