Emil Lambert Misar (Junior) was born on April 7th, 1937 in Tyndall, SD. The first-born child of Emil Sr. and Hattie (Schneider) Misar, he grew up on a farm near Tyndall. He was baptized and confirmed at a Catholic Church in Bon Homme County, SD. Emil attended country and public schools near Tyndall, Hurley, and Turkey Ridge. He finished his GED in the Army.
On November of 1959, Emil was drafted during the Vietnam War into the Army at the age of 22. He was stationed at Schofield Barracks in Hawaii. Emil spent time training in the Philippines jungle. He was a crew member on cargo missions to Vietnam, Cambodia, and Thailand. Emil came home in 1962 from the Army and spent the next 8 years in the Army Reserve. He went to Guard camp for 2 weeks each Summer in Wisconsin and the Black Hills.
He farmed at home and was set up on a blind date where he met the love of his life, Wanda Harstad. On April 24, 1965, he was united in marriage to Wanda at St. Martin s Catholic Church in Huron. They started their life together at the farm they rented near Woonsocket, SD. After having 3 children; Darrell, Patty, Vickie, they bought a farm near the Big Sioux River between Volga and Brookings, SD on February 28, 1970. It was here that they built their dairy farm and their life, adding 3 more daughters; Lori, Becky and Pamela, to their family.
Emil was blessed to travel with his wife and family to Portugal, Mexico, Puerto Rico, various Army bases throughout the United States (to visit his daughter and son-in-law) and he especially loved going on family trips to Kauai, Hawaii.
Emil also loved any activity spent outdoors and with the family. Driving around to check the crops was a frequent activity of his in the Summer. Emil enjoyed having coffee and catching up with friends and family. Emil shared his love of gardening with his grandchildren as they would attempt to grow the largest pumpkin in the county each year. And we can t forget his love of polka, traveling to Polka Fests and taking in any opportunity to see Molly B with family.
Emil passed in his sleep on June 18, 2022 at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD. His family will miss his sense of humor and his caring and loving heart.
Those left to continue Emil s legacy include daughters, Patricia (Mike) Thompson, Vickie (Greg) Thompson, Lori (Rick) Behr, Becky (Spencer) Degen, Pamela (Lance) Intermill; grandchildren, Melissa (Tanner) Flitter, Ashley Thompson, Travis Thompson, Taylor Hauge, Cole (Sarah) Hauge, Elizabeth Thompson, Samuel Thompson, Jameson Degen, and Abygale Degen; a great grandchild, Colt Thompson; siblings, Francis (Lillian) Misar, Joann Pommerer, Marion Goetsch, Diane (Robert) Swaney, Milo (Cathy) Harstad, Darlene (Jerome) Radtke and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, neighbors, and friends.
