Charles Franklin Brown, Jr. passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Friday, July 15, 2022 at the age of 83. Charlie was born December 6, 1938 to Charles Sr. and Virginia (Mellor) Brown in Tacony, PA and was raised in Warminster, PA. Charlie was a resident of Northampton Township for 50 years.
He is survived by the love of his life, Doris (Beal) Brown, and his four children Donna Tomlinson (Jeff), Chuck Brown (Cheryl), Kim Turnbull (Matt), and Lisa Heine (Dan). Charlie enjoyed watching his 11 grandchildren grow, and had a special place in his heart for his 8 great grandchildren. One of his great grandchildren was born just a few hours after he left us. Charlie was an only child but had a close bond with his cousin, Joyce. He and Joyce, along with her husband Dick, kept in touch through the years, always making time for each other.
Charlie lived a full 83 years of life. Of most importance to him was his family and his church. His wife, Doris, was the central focus of his days, he always put her needs before his own. She made him so happy, and she lovingly cared for him, right up until his last moments. Doris stood by his side, as did he by hers. Charlie and Doris built a marriage on a foundation of true love, that was indestructible and withstood life's ups and downs.
Charlie loved his church, Addisville Reformed Church in Richboro, PA. He spent over 40 years serving in many capacities within the church. Most recently, he served as Addisvillle's treasurer. He was a valued member of the church's life and family. He will remain in the hearts of many within the church.
Charlie was a 1957 graduate from William Tennent High School. He loved drag racing as a teen and young adult. He competed in drag races on driving strips in Langhorne, Atco, and Daytona Beach, where he won many certificates and trophies and always spoke of them proudly. He enjoyed anything and everything about cars, and he made sure that he had a new car every few years, always keeping it shiny and clean.
Charlie worked for Philadelphia Electric Company for 34 years, starting in an entry level position in the accounting department when he was 19 years old. He worked his way up the ladder and took early retirement, at 51 years of age, as the Manager of Systems Support. After retiring from Philadelphia Electric, he spent his days playing rounds of golf with his buddies. One of his most prized accomplishments on the golf course is when he swung two years in a row, on the same hole and at the same course, achieving a "hole in one" both years. He held that achievement close to his heart. He and his wife were "winter birds" and spent many winters in Florida, at The Villages. They enjoyed cruising the town in their street-legal golf cart, dancing at the town square, enjoying a buy one get one free cocktail hour with friends and of course golfing at the local courses. In addition to their winters in Florida, Charlie and his wife were avid cruisers and cruised many times including trips to Alaska, through the Panama Canal, and to the Caribbean. As time passed, he and Doris traveled and golfed less and spent more time trying their chances at the Harrah's casino slots. He never wagered much money, as he had a sharp financial mind, but it was the excitement, thrill, "freebee" door prizes, and spending day trips with Doris that he enjoyed most. Charlie also had many fond memories of fun times spent with special neighbors from his Karen Rd home for 40 years. He would end many of his retirement days watching a Phillies game, rooting on his lifelong favorite team.
As his years progressed, Charlie's focus came solely to family, including driving grandkids to and from school, family dinners, and annual family trips to Lewes, Delaware. He loved sitting on the deck in Lewes watching the Cape May- Lewes Ferry pull in and out of the ferry terminal, watching his family spend days on the beach in front of him, and finishing each day enjoying dinner together and playing games.
Charlie enjoyed many more special memories and times with family and friends, many of whom he is now reunited with, in the heavens. Charlie's body and mind became tired and God called upon him to continue his life above. He spent his last days and hours surrounded by his loving wife and 4 children. He will be missed greatly, every second of the day, by his family and friends. He was one of a kind, and those who loved him were very lucky. They will cherish his legacy with fond memories.
Ultimately, the lighthouse of Charlie's life was his wife, Doris. They were two peas in a pod, and relied on each other, always receiving what they needed, and more, from one another. Doris and Charlie will be apart for some time now, but when they reunite, the heavens will dance with joy to receive such a strong and magnificent bond of two people who adore each other so much. They are a true example of God's love.
Charlie's family will receive relatives and friends Tuesday, August 2, 2022 from 9:15 to 10:45 AM at Addisville Reformed Church, 945 Second Street Pike, Richboro, PA 18954. A service to celebrate his life will follow at 11:00 AM.
