Cecil "Jerry" Adams, 84, of Chanute, Kansas, passed peacefully on August 26, 2024, after a hard-fought battle with Melanoma. A cherished Husband, Father, Brother, and friend, he was known for his kind, loving, caring, humorous, and onery personality.
Jerry was born on June 24, 1940, to William Cecil Adams and Esther Gertrude Adams in Caddo Parrish Louisiana. Raised in Dallas, Texas, Jerry grew up playing endless games of baseball, burying all his daddy's tools in the backyard, and riding his bicycle around the idyllic streets of Oak Cliff to buy old fashioned Dad's Root Beers and to Aunt Stella's Sno-Cones on Clarendon for a favorite summertime treat. Gifted in Mathematics and tinkering with cars, he graduated from Sunset High School in 1958 and went on to study Mechanical Engineering at the University of Texas at Arlington.
In October 1968, Jerry met Mary on a blind date arranged by his mother. Jerry and Mary married on April 2, 1969, and went on to have one child, a daughter, Jennifer.
In 2017, Jerry retired after 23 years as the Engineering Manager at HBD, Industries, Thermoid, in Chanute, Kansas. He spent his free time collecting rods and reels for bass fishing, attending Safari Bass Club meetings and Saturday morning breakfasts at the Grain Bin, acquiring tools, collecting Austin Healey parts and dreaming about the restoration, attending a weekly film class at the local community college, watching endless old Westerns on GRIT T.V., going to the American Legion, and he never left home without his sweet dogs, his chocolate Labrador, Kona Bear, and Bo, his little dog.
You could ask Jerry about anything, and he would give you good advice or help you figure out the right answer. His life mantra was, "Don't sweat the small stuff and it's all small stuff."
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents William Cecil Adams and Esther Gertrude Adams, his younger sister Margaret Carol Harris, and his beloved wife Mary Katherine. He is survived by his only daughter Jennifer Adams of Houston, Texas, and his youngest sister Barbara Jean Klauser of Houston, Mississippi, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at the Old Hall Cemetery on Saturday, August 31, 2024, at 10 a.m.
