Boyd Sherrill Adams, age 74 of Sac City, Iowa passed away peacefully from complications due to cancer on August 5, 2024 at his daughter's home in Phoenix, Arizona. Boyd was born on April 22, 1950 in Sioux Rapids, Iowa to Sherrill and Reba (Rash) Adams. Around 6 years of age, his family moved to Storm Lake, Iowa and Boyd grew up there. He graduated from Storm Lake High School in 1968. He joined the National Guard in 1969 and served through 1975. In the National Guard, he was a mechanic in the motor pool.
In 1971, he was united in marriage. He was blessed with two sons (Chris and Jamie) from this marriage. He shared his love for the outdoors with them by going on many hunting adventures and fishing trips. His two sons were the light of his world. They later divorced.
As an adult, Boyd began his journey with Christ. He was baptized on April 12, 1981 at Nain Lutheran Church in Newell, Iowa. He was confirmed on April 4, 1993 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Sac City, Iowa.
In 1992, Boyd was united in marriage to Katherine (Davis) Orth at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Included in this marriage were 3 children (Katie, Melissa, and Jason Orth). As a family, a lot of time was spent boating, tubing, and at the pool.
Boyd had numerous jobs throughout his time, and he worked really hard throughout his life. The last few decades were spent driving truck. His most memorable job was when he owned a trucking route through FedEx with Kathy, where they were team drivers. They spent a lot of time on the road together, and he loved seeing all the scenery.
Boyd loved spending time with his family, especially all his kids and grandchildren. He was a great teacher, and loved to share his wealth of knowledge with his family. He taught his grandchildren how to shoot bb guns, fish, drive his truck, and garden (among many other things). Boyd loved taking his grandchildren on donut runs and spent many hours in the kitchen keeping everyone's bellies full and happy. If you ask, his grandchildren will say he made the best eggs. He loved to take care of his family, and did this best by feeding them. Boyd did not only love to feed his grandchildren but also the multitude of birds and squirrels that showed up near his living room window. Boyd was a storyteller. He had a story for everything and was never in a rush to get to the ending. He spent a lot of time in the water, teaching all his children to swim and showed them his infamous frog dive.
Boyd and Kathy were inseparable. After their children graduated they bought a truck route. If you asked him while he was alive about this experience he would have had a long winded explanation on how this time spent with Kathy was one of the best moments of his life. The strength of their love was easily felt through their family and friends. Their love was truly tested when Kathy was diagnosed with MS. Throughout this disease's progression Boyd showed the love and care he had for his wife through becoming her caretaker. The disease took away her ability to walk but Boyd was ever patient with her and continued to care for her without hesitation. Boyd's entire family knew that he loved Kathy to no end. Words cannot truly describe the love that they shared for each other but through watching them interact it was easy to see that they enjoyed each other's company immensely.
We are going to end this the way Boyd ended every day when he closed the blinds each night: "Sorry folks, show's over."
Boyd is survived by his wife, Katherine Adams from Sac City, Iowa; Children: Chris (Jill) and their children Carson and Denisyn Adams of Belle Plaine, Iowa; Jamie (Jenny) and their children Riley, Elizabeth, Kinsley, and Kolette Adams of Newell, Iowa; Katie (Joe) Harjes of Phoenix, Arizona; Melissa (Michael) and their children Willis and Lucy Frazier of Gilmore City, Iowa; and Grandchildren Abrielle Orth and Max Orth of Storm Lake, Iowa; many extended family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Sherrill and Reba Adams, parents-in-law Arnold and Geraldine Davis, infant brother Bart Adams, son Jason Orth, and of course, Biscuit, Boyd's beloved yellow lab.
