Funeral service for Mrs. Barbara Cheeks Liebe, 70, of Oxford, will be held on Tuesday, April 5, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. at Anniston Memorial Funeral Home. Jamie Cox will be officiating the service. Burial will follow the service in Anniston Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12-2 p.m. prior to the service. Mrs. Liebe passed away on Wednesday, March 30, 2022, surrounded by her loving family.
Preceding Mrs. Liebe in death are her parents, E.G. Hurston and Annie Humphries Hurston; her first husband and father of her children, Mac Vernon Cheeks; her daughter, Vanessa Wilson; her second husband, Roger Liebe; and two sisters, Pamela Martin and Victoria Preston.
Left to cherish the memory of Mrs. Liebe are her daughters, Yonna Cox (Jamie) and April F. Cheeks; seven grandchildren, Michael Cheeks, Brittney Woodard (Caleb), Alexandra Rowell (Trey), Joshua Bowman, Makyla Bowman, Noah Carter, and BreAnna Cox; six great-grandchildren, Amelia Oliver, Jonah Herring, Isaiah O'Connor, Axel Bowman, DJ Rowell, and Vanessa Rowell; one great-granddaughter on the way; five sisters, Freida Key, Lisa Thompson, Scarlett Hurston, Wonda Hinton, and Cynthia Hurston; one brother, Dennis Hurston; a host of nieces and nephews; and her best friend, Sarah Wilkins.
Mrs. Liebe was a member of the Church of God and read her Bible daily. She became unable to read to herself later into her sickness and as her children knew how important this was to her, they made sure to read to her, so she didn't miss a day. Mrs. Liebe was a wonderful Christian woman who overcame much in her life. Through the loss of her spouses, one child, and two sisters, Mrs. Liebe knew what it was to lose those she loved and knew what it meant to cherish those she had left. As an amazing "Mama", "Grandma" and sister, Mrs. Liebe was devoted to spending time with her family. She was sacrificial in providing for her home and her children and later in life she went back and obtained her bachelor's degree of Science in Nursing and was a state registered nurse, giving aide to so many throughout her career. In her spare time, Mrs. Liebe enjoyed reading classic novels, antique shopping, baking the best Red Velvet cake you could put in your mouth, going for ice cream, and holding a good political debate with her son-in-law. Her infectious character and huge heart will forever be remembered.
