Barbara Stark Swanson
Barbara Stark Swanson, formerly of Chisholm, passed away in St. Paul on November 19, 2023, after a 4-year struggle with Long-COVID.
Proud mother of Ruth Swanson, Catherine Swanson Leimbach (Michael) and granddaughter Ann. Survived by sister Mary Lou Marchand. Because of daughter Ruth's Cerebral Palsy, Barbara became a staunch supporter of public education for disabled children. Barbara held many groundbreaking jobs for women, working for Planned Parenthood and the Hibbing Public Utilities Commission until she was hired by the St. Louis County Attorney to create their first victim witness program. In the 1980s, Barbara relocated to St. Paul, and worked as a legal secretary for well-known criminal defense attorneys.After Barbara retired, she and Ruth lived together and spent their days with their dogs, tending their yard, crafting, and spending time with family. Barb was known for her smile, laugh and dedication to her family.
She was predeceased by her parents, Helen and John, and her brother John.
