Brian "Redco" Franklin

TOWN OF DUNN - Brian "Redco" Franklin, age 62, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 8, 2023 at his home after a lengthy battle with multiple medical conditions. He was born in Davenport, IA on February 4, 1961, the son of Charles and Sandra Franklin. Redco grew up in Davenport and graduated from North Scott High School. For two years he worked in the oil fields in Texas. Redco enjoyed woodworking and was a talented carpenter. He served as a volunteer firefighter for McFarland Fire Department for over 10 years. On September 5, 1992 he married Julee Tobolt. Together they had three children. In 2004 they were divorced. Redco owned and operated Redco Builders II where he made shipping crates and handled independent carpentry contracts. In addition, he performed maintenance at Amtelco in McFarland for over 15 years. On May 12, 2016 Brian married his longtime sweetheart, Deb Huston. Together they enjoyed fishing, traveling, and cooking. Redco enjoyed gardening and canning, his specialties included pears, pickled asparagus, and his venison sausage. He enjoyed working with metals and created special trinkets, crosses, and pirate coins.
Redco is survived by his wife, Deb; three children, Taylor, Hunter, and Charlie Franklin; two stepdaughters, Lindsay (Bill) Clements and Melissa (David Bittrick) Huston; four grandchildren, Kayla, Joslyn, Jordan, and Elizabeth; and great grandson, Jackson; father, Chuck; mother, Sandy; and brother Bevin (Gina Cooper) Franklin.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 AM on Thursday, November 16, 2023 at Cress Funeral Home, 5801 Highway 51, McFarland, with Rev. Kelli Schmit officiating. Friends and relatives are invited to a luncheon reception immediately following at the McFarland American Legion Post 534. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until the time of services Thursday.
