John Dezan Obituary

John "Jay" Dezan, age 62, a longtime resident of Dracut, died peacefully on November 2, 2023, surrounded by his loving wife of 38 years, Elizabeth "Beth" (McQuade) and family.

Jay was born on December 6, 1960, in Lawrence, son of the late Dorothy Dezan and Burton Dezan. He was raised in Lawrence where he was a graduate of Lawrence High School. He majored in criminal justice in college and graduated from the Police Academy. Jay took great pride serving as a police officer in the communities of Methuen and Dracut. He especially loved his role as a D.A.R.E. Officer and had a passion for working with children. Jay loved sports and was a member of Long Meadow Golf Club.

Jay will always be known for his caring heart, sense of humor, love of animals, and his storytelling. He warmed many hearts with his smile especially as a volunteer clown for Shriners. Jay will be deeply missed and will forever hold a loving spot in his family's hearts.

Jay is survived by his wife Beth; his best friend and brother, Fred Dezan and his wife, Janine; his nephew, Keith Dezan and many adoring nieces, nephews, sister-in-laws, brother-in-laws and friends. In addition to his parents, Jay was predeceased by his sisters, Diane Baglieri and Joyce C. Ventrillo.

At Jay's request, there will be a private Celebration of Life at a later date.

Jay was one of my coaches as a freshman at Lawrence High School. He was incredibly supportive and a great inspiration. The coaching staff changed after my freshman year and I hadn´t seen him for awhile. I had a good game as a senior, and as I was running toward the old clubhouse he ran up to me from behind and grabbed my shoulder. He told me how impressed he was and it meant a great deal to me. Great guy! I´m sorry for your loss. Our loss
