Obituary of LeRoy R. Weisser
LeRoy R. Weisser, age 87, of Delmont, SD passed away peacefully on November 10, 2024 at Good Samaritan Center in Scotland, SD. LeRoy was born on March 17, 1937 in Delmont, SD to Alfred and Adeline (Lehr) Weisser on the family farm. He attended country school near the farm through 8th grade and served his country in the Army National Guard for six years.
In 1970, LeRoy married Karen (Herr) and took over the family farm, where he worked tirelessly for many years, growing the farm into a cornerstone of his life and legacy. He was known not only for his hard work but also for his kindness and dedication to his family and neighbors.
After Karen's death in 1995, LeRoy married Shirley (Schelling) in 1998. He farmed until 2020 before moving into the nursing home. He was fluent in speaking German and always seeked out conversation in this language. He loved driving around the countryside looking at crops and fields. LeRoy will be remembered for his unwavering work ethic and always ready to lend a hand to those in need.
He is survived by his wife Shirley (Schelling) Weisser of Tripp, SD; 3 step-children: Lee (Rhonda) Schelling of Brandon, SD; Sheila (Mike) Samsel of Brandon; and Sarah (Russell) Neugebauer of Tripp; a brother, Roland (Orgenia) Weisser of West Bend, WI; a sister-in-law, Charlotte Weisser of Lincoln, NE; and several nieces and nephews.
LeRoy was preceded in death by his first wife, Karen; a step-son, Loren Schelling; a step-daughter, Sheryl Schelling; a brother, Howard Weisser; and 3 other siblings in infancy.
A celebration of life will be held at Zion Lutheran Church in Delmont, SD on November 18, 2024. Visitation begins at 9:30am with the funeral service at 10:30 am and luncheon to follow.
LeRoy's legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. He will be deeply missed.
