John Berryman Obituary

John C. Berryman
1935-2022
John Calvert Berryman, at the age of 86, died Friday, March 18, 2022 at his home. A native Houstonian, he was born to Cecil Calvert Berryman and Kathleen Oliver Berryman. John attended Lanier Junior High, Lamar High School, and University of Texas, where he pledged Phi Gamma Delta, and later graduated from the University of Houston.
His career was mainly with Quintana Petroleum. Outside of work he filled his life with many activities. An instrument-rated pilot, John loved flying his single engine Cessna plane throughout Texas as well as to Colorado and Mexico, often with his best friends since high school, Harry Cullen and Casey Rubey. He also loved fishing and hunting, but his main passion was golf, playing many courses including his all-time favorite at St. Andrews Links in Scotland. John cherished the company of friends and family, finding joy in making them laugh with his great sense of humor.
He is survived by those dearest to him - his devoted wife of 60 years, Marsha, his daughter, Kathleen, along with husband, Richard Colt and grandchildren, Samuel Sloan Colt III and Caroline Mary Colt, his sister Frances and husband, Dr. Ed Heyne, and nephews, Dr. Kirk Heyne, Erik Heyne, John Heyne, and Dr. Ward Heyne.
The family would like to express deep appreciation for the wonderful care and comfort provided by Yolana Kaiser, Renee Jacobs, and Pam McClellan. A graveside service with family will be held at Glenwood Cemetery. For memorial gifts, his family suggests St. Anne Catholic Community (www.saintanne.org/contribute).

I only met John a few years ago when I moved into a home near Rice University where he grew up. During renovations he would stop by to check on progress and relate stories about his time in the house. We shared a cup of coffee and a lot of laughs. He will be missed.

Dear Kathleen,

Diane and I were saddened to learn of your father's passing.

I recall how joyful and happy he was when you and Richard married in 2000, and can only imagine his delight and pride in the beautiful family you created.

Wishing you peace and comfort in the weeks ahead.
