Manuel Botelho Obituary

Manuel "Butch" Botelho, age 64, passed away peacefully on April 15, 2022 after a long battle with cancer. Born in Providence, a son of the late Manuel Botelho Jr. and Dorothy (Barbosa) Botelho. Butch was a lifelong resident of Bristol and graduate of Bristol High School class of 1975.

Just like he dealt with all experiences in life, Butch managed his illness with strength and grace, and wanted to spend as much time with his loved ones as possible. In his final days, he was surrounded by his loving family who he loved more than anything else in the world.

Butch was a talented machinist who owned and operated MGB Machine in Bristol for 32 years before retiring in 2021. He was a member of the Bristol Rod and Gun Club, Bristol Elks, Crestwood Country Club and Montaup Country Club. Butch loved golfing with friends, BMW motorcycles, reminiscing with friends and family, but his biggest love was spending the summer days on Hog Island. A true "Mayor" of Bristol. It seemed like there wasn't a person in town he didn't know and if he knew you he knew your whole family, called you on your birthday and somehow made time to go to all your family functions like they were his own.

Butch will be dearly missed by all who knew him. He had an unparalleled zest for life and an infectious personality. He was an incredible man inside and out.

In addition to his late parents, Butch is survived by his girlfriend Kristen, his son Michael (Dawn) Botelho, his sister Nancy (Mark) Botelho-Andrews, his brothers Bob (Debbie) Botelho, Bruce Botelho, Richard (Sharon) Botelho, and "the light of his life" granddaughter Annabel. Butch was also blessed with many nieces, nephews and god children.

Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Thursday, April 21, 2022, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Smith Funeral and Memorial Services, 8 Schoolhouse Road, Warren RI 02885. His funeral services will be held Friday, April 22, 2022, in the funeral home at 10 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Elizabeth's, 577 Wood St., Bristol. Burial will follow at North Burial Ground, Bristol.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Smith Funeral & Memorial Services, 8 Schoolhouse Road, Warren RI 02885.

There was only 1 Butch and will never be another. Will miss you my friend. Our long talk of politics and current events. The tour of Hog! Seeing you at the dock heading to the island for the weekend. You had so much wisdom and so much more to give in this world. You left a hole in Bristol that will never be filled. How lucky was I and so many others to have earned your respect. My wife´s and my deepest condolences to all of Butch´s family and loved ones. Rest in piece good friend.

Butch was a great guy you use to tell us about how he came to the island with day camp when her was a kid , and he always hated to go home at the end of the day. He said he´ll have a house here some day! He will be sadly missed

Dear Bob, Bruce, Rich and Nancy:
Please accept my sincerest condolences on the loss of your brother, Butch. I have such fond memories of our neighborhood "gang" that, of course, included all of the Botelhos. Butch was a great guy and sweet man and always had something nice or funny to say....always with a smile. I had reconnected with him more recently after having moved back to Bristol and I was always happy to see him, tell stories and laugh. I know he will be missed. I hope your memories of him put smiles on your faces. I know there are lots of Butch stories. May you all find peace as this difficult time. Take care, Annie

Ask he always liked to say to me every year, "Hello My Birthday Buddy". "What place are traveling to or how are we spending it this year? " He knew I always celebrated my 10/3 birthday. The older I got, the longer the running start to celebrating.
RIP neighbor. Have a great chat with Tony D and the rest of the Hog crew watching over us all!
