Charles Walker Obituary

Charles E. "Chuck" Walker, age 74, passed away peacefully on November 5, 2023, surrounded by loved ones at Methodist University Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.

A graveside service to celebrate his life will be held at Cordova Community Cemetery on Saturday, November 11, 2023, at 11:00 a.m., followed by a celebration of life reception at Cordova Presbyterian Church.

Born August 7, 1949, Chuck worked for almost fifty years at Stewart Brothers Hardware in Memphis and was a fixture around Midtown Memphis, where he had many friends and earned a reputation as a good Samaritan and neighbor. Chuck loved sports, good old-fashioned Southern food, and spending time with family and friends. If he was awake, he was watching sports-from the Houston Astros to the Memphis Tigers-Chuck loved to watch his teams compete. Chuck loved Memphis Wrestling with Dave Brown and he took his children to wrestling matches many times when they were young. Chuck was easy to be around: he loved to laugh and frequently wore a devilish grin on his face that put all who knew him at ease. He will be truly missed for his wit as well as his kind nature and generosity to those less fortunate.

Chuck leaves his beloved children William Bolton (Leigh) of Athens, TN and April Suggs (Kevin) of Olive Branch, MS, eight cherished grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Chuck is survived by his sister Barbara McKenney (Ed) of Bartlett, sister-in-law Kathy Walker of Cleveland, TN, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, as well as his dear friend Kelly Meeks. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Lynn Walker, his brothers Bill Walker and Frank Walker, and sister Margaret Lynn Caswell.
