William Larry Payne, 85, Gas City, passed away on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, at Ascension St. Vincent in Indianapolis. He was born in Gas City, Indiana, on October 12, 1938, to Hillard M. Payne and Viola (Wyatt) Payne. On July 11, 1979, he married Marsha (Smithson) Payne, who survives.
William graduated from Swayzee High School in 1957 and proudly served his country in the United States Army. Following his military service, he drove semi-trucks and was a mechanic and jack-of-all-trades. He loved his cars and enjoyed working on old cars and trucks. William especially loved his family and animals.
William is also survived by his children, Gregory and Soni Payne of Michigan, Leah Johnson of New York, and Christina Payne of Gas City; grandchildren, Trevor Payne, Jarod Payne, and Harley Payne; great-grandson, Jaiman; and sister, Mary Ann Parrie.
He was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Ashley Johnson; and brothers, Bill Mauller and Paul C. Payne.
The family will receive visitors from 12:00 noon to 1:00 pm on Tuesday, November 14, 2023, at Integrity Cremation & Funeral Care, 2901 S. Washington St., Marion, IN.
Immediately following the time of visitation, a funeral service to celebrate William's life will be at 1:00 pm. Pastor Bill Sparks will be officiating with burial following at Riverside Cemetery.

Larry was a good cousin. I remember the times we had. So much fun. He would tell me things and get me to believe him. Then he would just laugh and say not really. He love his dogs and teasing people. He is at peace now.
