Robert Benson
PORT BYRON - Robert Benson, 88, of Spring Lake Rd., Port Byron, NY, passed away on October 25, 2023 at Auburn Community Hospital surrounded by his family.
Robert was born in Lyons, NY the son of Roy and Ruth Williams Benson.
He was a member of US Marine Corp. from 1953-1957.
Robert spent almost fifty years working in the gas line field. He was known by the name of "Serge" short for sergeant by many of his coworkers because of his temper, drive, and sarcasm. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. His smile and laughter was infectious and he touched so many lives.
He was kind, compassionate, generous and was always there for anyone if they needed help.
After retirement he would always find projects to work on, whether it was in his barn or in the house. Dad always insisted we were always right beside him, no matter what project he was working on because he wanted us to learn to be independent like him. He always started his day out with early morning check-ins with his phone call "buddy", slow morning drives to Wegmans, Lowes, and buying scratch-offs.
Robert is survived by his loving wife, Joan, of 64 years marrying on June 21, 1959; daughters: Dawn (Tommy) Fox, Cherie Benson, Lisa (Earl) Knapp, Terry (Alan) Patrick, Rochelle Turo, Sandy Swann and Jammie Emmons (recently deceased), Bobbi (Eric) Reich; ten grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren.
He will be forever loved and dearly missed.
There will be no services at this time. Robert's wishes were to wait until Joan passes and have services together.
