Barbara Ann Bailey Armstrong of Boonville, NC was a cherished, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend to many. She left this world on June 19, 2022, at the age of 82, following a protracted battle with cancer. Barbara was born on April 4, 1940, in North Wilkesboro, NC, one of ten children of the late Robert and Addie Bailey.
Barbara graduated in 1957 from Lincoln Heights High School, located in North Wilkesboro, NC, where she was a stellar student and standout athlete. In 1960, she married the late William F. Armstrong Sr, and moved to the Barneyhill community of Yadkin County, where she resided until her passing. Barbara retired in 1990 from AT&T in Winston Salem NC, after 27 years.
Barbara’s pride and joy were her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, family and friends. She proudly and frequently shared that joy and love with all she came into contact with. Barbara was also an avid reader and continuously educated herself through novels, book, newspapers, magazines and later through the internet. This passion for knowledge served her well as she embarked on her post retirement passion, traveling. Barbara traveled the world and nation with her children, visiting many of the places she had read and learned about. Her travels took her to numerous countries throughout Europe and Latin America. All who drove past her residence in Barneyhill also knew she loved gardening, horticulture and animals. Neighbors and passersby alike often stopped and chatted with her as she worked in yard and garden. During her illness many would stop and ask if she was well, having not seen her in her yard or garden.
Left with many wonderful memories are her loving children, Alisa (Fred) Jones of Fayetteville Ga, LTC(R) William (Tiger) Armstrong and Jacob (Drew) Armstrong of Boonville NC. She was a loving "grandmother" affectionally called “Nana” by her grands; Gabrielle Jones, Simone Jones, Jenna Pressley, Jasmine Armstrong, Jessica Armstrong, Sophia Armstrong, Isabel Armstrong and great-grandchildren, Peyton, Jaxson and Ava Pressley. Barbara is also survived by her siblings, Robert Bailey, Addie May Cockerham, William Bailey, Tena Potts and Sandy Bailey. Preceding her in death were her siblings Douglas Bailey, Dean Bailey, Buster Bailey and Cathy Bailey. She also has a plethora of loving nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
We will honor Barbara’s life on Saturday June 25th at 12:00PM at Gentry Family Chapel in Yadkinville, NC. Burial will immediately follow at Clark’s Memorial Baptist Church cemetery, Barneyhill NC. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 11:00AM to 12:00PM at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville, which is serving the Armstrong family.

I will truly miss stopping chatting with Bob when I pass by. I thank God that she was able to come by our house last week to visit for awhile, for years she had talked about coming over. Last Friday was our last visit I told her I Love You. She is now safe in our Fathers arms. My thoughts and prayers are with the family.
