William ZUKOWSKY Obituary

ZUKOWSKY, William "Bill"
August 8, 1924 – September 14, 2015
William "Bill" Zukowsky P.Eng. passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, September 14, 2015 at the age of 91. Bill grew up in Winnipeg, Manitoba and after a short time in the army went on to graduate from the University of Manitoba with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, graduating at the top of his class. His career of 33 years with Imperial Oil began in Montreal and took him and his family to Sarnia, Toronto, Calgary, culminating as the Manager of Strathcona Refinery in Edmonton. Bill excelled at his job and held a variety of management positions with Esso. He was proud of his contributions to Esso along with the numerous close business associates who became close friends. He adored Kay (his wife of 65 years) and his daughters and he was the happiest when he was spending time with his family. His zest for life was evident in his joking nature, his discussions with his many friends and family, as well as every retail clerk and waitress he met. Bill was known for his concern for others, his commitment to his work and his sincere friendships. His most enjoyable time was spent in Sicamous where he would socialize with the neighbours, sit on the deck, martini in hand, to watch the Osprey and other wild life, or putt around the lake on the boat. Bill is survived by his wife, Catherine "Kay"; his daughters, Claudia (George) Bell, Loraine (Bruce) McLeod, Cathy (Bob) Stemp, Betty-Jane "BJ" Marks; his grandchildren, Ian (Jennifer) Bell, Aron (Lindsay) Bell, Jason Bell, Spencer McLeod, Kathleen McLeod, Jessica (Ryan) Charney, Emily Stemp, Taylor Stemp, Elliot Marks, Anna Marks; great- grandchildren, Bailey and Austin Bell and Mason Charney; sisters-in-law, Gert Zukowsky of Winnipeg, MB, and niece, Janet Zukowsky of Ottawa, Ontario, Ann Trylinski of Calgary, AB, Louise Malegus of Winnipeg, MB; brother-in-law, Chris Trylinski of Winnipeg, MB; and numerous other nieces and nephews. Bill was predeceased by his parents, William and Pauline Zukowsky and his brother, Michael Zukowsky. He was deeply loved by his family and will be greatly missed. The family wishes to thank Dr. Jane Loehr who was unselfish with her time, paying on call visits to Bill in his time of need. Bill always looked forward to seeing her, as he was deeply fond of Dr. Loehr and the care she provided. Also, a sincere appreciation to the doctors and nurses at the Libin Cardiovascular Institute and Cardiac Units at the Foothills Hospital; the Garp Unit at the Rockyview Hospital, and the Sarcee Hospice; his palliative home care team, nurses Tracy, Andrea and Suzie; his night nurses, Adie and Daisy and caregivers, Moses, Maria Tauro and Nora Dahilig. A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, September 27, 2015 at Pinebrook Country Club, (166 Pinebrook Way SW), from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations being made in Bill's memory directly to the Libin Cardiovascular Institute of Alberta either online at https://netcommunity.ucalgary.ca/LCI, or by cheque payable to "University of Calgary" with memo line "Libin Institute – In Memory of W. Zukowsky" (Libin Cardiovascular Institute of Alberta, 3330 Hospital Drive NW, Calgary, AB T2N 4N1). We are so sorry to hear of Bill's passing. We have many wonderful memories of the time spent at Strathcona Refinery with Bill as our manager. My job was at S-Complex and Bill knew everyone by name and even knew the names of our spouses and children. That was incredible. His kindness and smile will be forever remembered and missed greatly. Claudia, George, Ian, Aron, Jason,

So sorry to hear of Bill's passing. Though I only had a chance to meet him on a few occassions, those few moments left lasting impressions. As I told Ian yesterday, there certainly has been more laughing going on upstairs since Bill's passing. Please accept my deepest condolences.

Dear Kay and family,
I have known Bill for many years and found him to be very caring, compassionate, an intellectual and above all else I always looked forward to his smiling face and that very comfortable feeling that he portrayed every time I met him; albeit not as often as I would have liked. I know Bill is at a better place now and smiling as ever, without any pain. Our prayers are with the Zukowsky family and may the Lord give you strength and courage to move on with your lives without Bill's presence. All the very best

Dear Kay, Claudia, Loraine, Cathy, BJ and Family,
We want to extend to all of you our most deepest sympathy at this time. The Donato/Zukowsky families go way back to the time we lived in Pointe-aux-Trembles. We have been close friends, almost family ever since. There are many memories for us to cherish. Happy times that can make us laugh and enjoy - Zuk would like that I think.
Take care of yourselves and know that our thoughts and prayers are with you all

To Kay Zukowsky and Family,
I am sorry to hear of Bill's passing. Having worked with every manager both at the Edmonton and Strathcona ESSO Refinerys until my retirement, Bill is the one I will always treasure working for.
He always took time to visit all the process units and other departments and made it his point to know everyone by name.
Our social time away from work was also a fun time and I could never beat him at golf.
Gone but never forgotten. Thinking of you all at this time.
