Stewart DAWSON Obituary
In accordance with his dreams and wishes, Stewart died peacefully at home in Colac Bay, on Saturday, June 21, 2025. Loved and cherished husband of Thelma Margaret Dawson*. Dad of Edwina (Christchurch), Reg and Dianne (Wyndham), Lindsay and Wendy (Kaiwera), Margaret and Michael (Otautau), Joe and Nancee (Riverton), Gerard and Sharilyn (Gummies Bush). A much loved Grandad and Pop of 16 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren. Loved and respected bush mate, Life member of NZ Axemen Association and Orepuki Bowls Club. A staunch and loyal supporter of Colac Bay its people and community. A service for Dad will be held in the Colac Bay Hall, Colac Bay, on Thursday, June 26 at 1.30pm. Private cremation will follow. Messages to 244 Waipango Emmerdale Road, RD3, Riverton 9883. We would like to sincerely thank the team at Access Homecare – Coleen, Marley and Michelle. District nurse Kathryn and her team and Dr Bill Groves and his Medical Centre team at Riverton. To the Emergency Services of Police, Fire Brigade and Ambulance our sincere thanks and appreciation for all your professional care of Dad. Children you are invited to wear your sports tops representing your team in honour of Dad's love of sport and sportsmanship.

Stewart was a gentleman, he felled trees on our farm at Fairfax when I was a kid . He worked incredibly hard but always had time to talk to me and answer countless questions I threw at him. I stopped to see him three years ago and he welcomed me into his house close to fifty years after his work on our farm . It was special to see him , still sharp as a tack and he recalled playing basketball with my father in Thornbury in 1946 . A special man .

Sorry to hear of Stewart´s passing. Condolences to you all. I always have special memories of growing up in Colac Bay as kids and the Dawson family living up the hill. Stewart was the gentle giant, never ever raising his voice to any of us. Working hard and always saying hello. Sorry we can´t be with you when you farewell Stewart but you will be in our thoughts.
