Mr Bailey was an amazing teacher. Mr Bailey was an amazing "Dad" to the James Hargest Tramping Club.
His wife was/is an amazing woman. She shared Ross, school holiday after school holiday, with a bunch of adolescent kids. Truly a saint.
Lifelong friendships were forged on those trips. The gift he and his wife gave us as we navigated those years was beyond price.
The early years of Hargest, and the staff we had, left many of us now elderly students with pleasures we still use today. My grandchildren love to "tramp" and appreciate both the mountains and valleys in Fiordland and Central Otago and the mountains and great parks in the US.
Thank you Ross for being there for us and driving those wretched buses. And Thank you, Valerie for sharing him with us.
Love, Bub

My science teacher many years ago at James Hargest High School. We, as students, felt privileged to have Mr Bailey as our teacher. Even now, fifty something years later, I can still recite the Periodic Table of the Elements the way he taught us!
My Sincere Sympathies to the Family.
