I remember Bob as Mr Hughes and as a great teacher. Firm but fun. Took us deer stalking (successfully) and vividly remember his tobacco pipe, his old Vanguard with manual indicators and ground grip tyres, it was a beast. When playing rugby against Hokonui ( his school/team at the time) we were getting drubbed and I went to score out wide and I got held up 1m short of the line. Bob was refereeing and awarded the try declaring it "close enough". Dad related to him well too and used to tell me Bob was known for being super relaxed and often caught napping at school committee meetings.
Rest in peace Bob

Sincere sympathy to all of Bob's family. An outstanding teacher, taught our son Quentin, who flourished under his teaching, and in 1994 was M.C. at Quentin and Eleanor's wedding. Such a positive roll model, for young people. Thinking of you in your loss. Gaynor Miller and Family, Glencoe/Hedgehope.
