Dr Ranjit FERNANDO

Ranjit FERNANDO Obituary

Born February 12, 1937. Passed away very peacefully at Lower Hutt Hospital, on Sunday, January 25, 2026, aged 88, surrounded by family. Beloved and loving husband of 59 years to Nyantha, adored father and father-in-law of Rajitha, Ravindri, Jacqueline and Scott, and cherished grandfather of Neve, Jake, Cole, Zachary and Caius. Youngest devoted son of the late John Daniel and Mary Roslin Fernando, Ranjit was the last of their nine children to pass away. A much loved brother and brother-in law to his and Nyantha's respective siblings and their husbands and wives. And a much loved Podi Bappi and Podi Mama (uncle) to his many nieces and nephews. A wonderful man, loved by all who knew him. Ranjit was known for his compassion, generosity, kindness, sense of humour and his fun loving personality. He shared his love of music with many, along with his devoted service to others. Ranjit cared and looked after everyone with love and sincerity - his family, his friends and his patients.

Ranjit will be very sadly missed.

A private gathering for immediate family will be held this week, and a celebration of Ranjit's life and legacy will take place in Queenstown in a few weeks, details to be finalised.
