Michael J. "Mickey" Sovich, aged 76, passed away on November 3, 2024, in Richland, WA. Born on July 25, 1948, in Gary, IN, it could have been said Mickey was a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma. His zest for life and enigmatic personality left a memorable mark on all who knew him. Mickey didn’t just show up to the party, he was the party; and his knowledge of how to get a rise out of his friends is the stuff legends are made of.
Mickey served in the National Guard and following his service, he embarked on a career as a lineman with the local power company, where he was also an active union member, advocating for his colleagues' rights and well-being.
A true enthusiast of music, Mickey's collection of vinyl records was as legendary as his stories. His love for muscle cars also reflected his vibrant and spirited nature, often seen cruising around town looking for a good time.
He is survived by his brother, Edward "Eddie" Sovich; daughter, Amy Y. (Sovich) Manion and son-in-law, John S. Manion IV, and daughter, Annie Sovich. He was preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Eleanora Sovich.
Viewing and Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 23, 2024, at 10:00 AM, at Calumet Park Funeral Chapel in Merrillville, IN. Services will follow at 11:00 AM. The family invites donations in Mickey's memory to a charity of the donor's choice.
Herring Groseclose Funeral Home in Walla Walla, WA and Calumet Park Funeral Chapel in Merrillville, IN, are assisting the family during this difficult time. Mickey's tendency to cause a ruckus provided joy and laughter as well as stories for years to come; he will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
