One of the true characters of Makarewa and the Central Pirates Rugby Club. Merv showed a lot of people what a long day was at work and play. Remember the good parts. Our sympathy to all of the family. 2P.

Going to miss your smiling face every day. Made us laugh every time we talked. We met you the very first day we moved next door and you were always there if any help or advice was needed. Or just for a chat. Fly high Merv, forever and always In our hearts. Jo and Jon xoxo

Robert and I are so very saddened by the news of Merv's passing. We just loved him to bits! Always fun to be around with his upbeat and cheeky nature - yet had plenty of advice worth listening to as well. We loved catching up when on our trips to Invercargill and loved taking care of the cows, horses, cats and dogs when you went away a couple of years ago. Our love and thoughts are with you Karen, and your family. Such a big loss and way too soon. Rest in peace, Merv. Sorry I didn't get a chance to coax one more dance out of you!

I didn’t know Uncle Merv very well but whenever I did get to see him I felt that he lived just down the road as he was just so easy to get on with. He always lit up the room and was such an outgoing cheeky character. I’m so thankful I got to speak to him one last time. He will be missed.

Images of Mervyn -
Shorts, T shirt and boots.
Loves his horses, cream cakes and eggs. Eggs go with everything aye Merv.
Garry and I met for the first time about 7 years ago when Karen, my besty from way back in the old school days in Wellington brought Merv over to Oz. We said g'day and then proceeded to climb the 322 meter Q1 building in Surfers Paradise. It was like we had known him for years. Our friendship grew and we had many laughs over the short years we've known him. We did a few road trips together, both in Oz and N.Z. the 4 of us singing along to the music in the car and you always welcomed us into your lovely home in Invercargill. We really enjoyed those visits. I always cried when we had to wave goodbye again.
On our trip to Tasmania the boys wore their pink ear muffs just for a laugh. Always laughing and joking with you Merv and that's how Garry and I will remember you. Man are we going to miss you dear friend. Those road trips will never be the same. We just can't believe we'll never enjoy your delightful company again.
R.I.P. mate. We'll never forget your kind heart and smiling face.
My dearest friend Karen. Heartfelt condolences to you and family. You know we're miles apart but close in heart, always. Love
Julie and Garry xxx
