John L. "Jack" Pierce, 81, of Skenondoa Way, passed away on Wednesday, October 19, 2016, in the Oneida Healthcare Center, where he had been a patient for the past nine days. Born in Syracuse on December 27, 1934, he was the son of Stanley A. and Rita Edwards Pierce. A resident of Oneida since 2010, coming from Syracuse, Jack was educated on the Onondaga Nation Schools. He married Luanne Stout on October 29, 1972 in the Onondaga Nation Longhouse.
Jack was a twenty year veteran of the United States Navy from 1952-1972 during both the Korean and the Vietnam Wars. After his service in the Navy, he was employed with the Chrysler Corporation for twenty-five years until his retirement Jack was a member of the Beaver Clan of the Onondaga Indian Nation and made wooden lacrosse sticks. He loved the Dallas Cowboys.
Surviving besides his wife, Luanne, are five daughters and one son-in-law, Susan Pierce of Alabama, Tina and Jonathon Walker, Michelle Pierce, Karen Pierce and Jeannette Lowe, all of Oneida; one son John L. Pierce Jr. of Syracuse; twenty grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two step-daughters, Karen O'Hara and her husband Tom of North Syracuse and April White of Hogansburg and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a brother, Stanley Pierce Jr. and a sister, June Pierce.
Funeral services will be held 12:30pm Monday from the Campbell-Dean Funeral Home, Inc., 260 Main Street, Oneida, with Marshall Abrams, officiating. Interment will be made on the Oneida Nation Territory cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10am-12pm Monday, prior to the funeral service.
