A great friend to our family . Sadly missed

As a child attending Southland games at Rugby Park in the 70s, I personally remember somebody impeccably attired and of impressive bearing. Sincere condolences to Kevin's Family. A truly great Southern Man and a hero of the All Blacks 1960 Tour of South Africa. His crash tackles rattled the bones of the South African mid field. I was lucky enough to be at the Ceremony in Christchurch when Kevin was announced as the All Blacks Southland 'Living Legend'. Kevin was a proud and humble man with outstanding achievements on and off the field.

Kevin in his early days boarded with our parents Allan and Valmae Muir at Princes St in Invercargill as our Dad Allan now passed was friendly with Kevins father who ran the garage at Nightcaps.As a very young boy I can remember Kevin cleaning mud of his Rugby boots into the garden. Mum and dad had a lifelong friendship with Kevin and Maymie who visited us In Auckland from time to time and in particular Mum now in her 90s sends her sympathies to the Family as we all do from the Muir family.

So sad to hear about this great man. Condolences to the family.

On behalf of the Archer family and in particular our mother Muriel, we send our sincere sympathy on the death of Kevin. My parents shared many great times with Kevin and Maymie over the years through rugby and racing with a lot fun had. The stories we have heard speak of an enduring friendship. Kevin was a lovely man, always with a twinkle in his eye, fair, loyal and hardworking. Hugely talented and fiercely competitive whose life was well lived and loved. Arohanui.

I was sorry to hear of Kevin´s passing this week. Hard on the heels of Shirl. A generation gone. I was a bit awestruck of him when I was growing up. I read every book there was to read about the 1960 tour and the first thing I used to do was check out the index for his name and read those passages. Later on he was always good for a chat and I remember him as a fair man. All the best to the family. I know that it´s a tough time.

A Southland legend lost remember as a young boy in bed listening to to All Blacks in SA in 1960 and hearing his name latterly in life met both him and Maime . Kevin particularly at rugby ,races and on a golf course ,one of life's gentleman ,condolences to family

We were very sorry to learn of Kevin´s passing. He was my hero and a great role model for us baby boomers growing up in Nightcaps in the 1950´s.
As we are visiting family in UK we can´t be with you on Monday but will certainly be thinking of you.

Kevin, good friend, faithful client, family man and lover of all things sporting. Your rugby career was outstanding as was your knowledge of the game. I will sadly miss our chats on this subject. you are now with your beloved Maymie, rest well.

To the Laidlaw Family

It was with sadness that we heard Kevin had passed away. We are currently overseas and will not be home in time to join the family to celebrate Kevins life with you all on Monday. He and Maymei were great neighbours and he was an inspiration to all of Nightcaps and Ohai´s budding sports men and woman.
