SMITH, John Alexander:
(Late of Waimatuku and Queens Drive.) Peacefully after a long courageous battle on Tuesday, December 27, 2022. Aged 84 years. Dearly loved husband of Beth for 57 years. Loved and respected father of the late Geoffrey, and Marlys and Michael, Lindsay, Murray and Carol, Jason and Carmen. Loved Grandad of Michael and Keryn, Annalys and Howie, Kimberley and Pete, Cameron and Nicole, Makayla and Liam, Jamie and Tanna, Riley and Tyler. Loved Great-Grandad of Ollie and Chelsea, Adeline and Lachlan. Loved brother of Mavis and the late Grahame Andrews. Special thanks to the staff at the Medical Ward, Southland Hospital for their compassionate care over the past week. A service for John will be held in J Fraser and Sons Chapel, cnr. Esk and Doon Streets, Invercargill, at 10.30am, on Thursday, January 5, 2023. Then leaving for the Eastern Cemetery. Messages to 6 Dallard Way, Waikiwi, Invercargill 9810. Beth and family, sorry I won't be at John's funeral tomorrow however I will watch the live link.
I have many good memories of our tennis days when we played at Waihopai. Our team enjoyed many meals together and visits as we moved to different areas.

To Beth and family, So sorry to hear of the passing of John. May your family and friends be of great comfort, along with your rich memories. We always enjoyed visiting you at Waimatuku with our parents. I remember how keen you and John were at Trailor Sailing and John was so good at Tennis. I loved his late parents Uncle Jack and Aunty Jessie. Will be at the memorial service by live stream. Much love Kathleen (Beggs) My siblings David, Clair and Mary also send their condolences.
