I am very very sad to hear of the passing of John too early in his life. Through our military service together in 1 RNZIR and later with 4 O South we became true comrades' and I was lucky enough to meet Penny and the kids. John will be remembered for his no nonsense and do-it-right approach to soldiering and I sense to life as well, spiced with a sharp sense of humour. To Penny, the kid and grandkids, please accept my condolences and aroha. Where I live in Africa there is a Swahili saying that goes - Mwanadanu atakufa, jina lake litakaa. People will die, but their names will remain.
