Previously of New Plymouth and Invercargill. Joan passed away peacefully on July 11, 2024 after a hard-fought battle with cancer. Brave, patient, loving and gentle to the end. Still joyful and beautiful in her 90th year. Cherished wife of Tom Ryder (1934-2018), dearly loved mother of Paul and Kathryn, and much loved mother-in-law of Vicki. Beloved Nana of Tom, Lewis, Finn, Rob, Dylan and Byron. A private service for Joan will be held in St Mary's Anglican Church, Karori on July 17. A public memorial service will then be held in the Knox Presbyterian Church, New Plymouth on Friday, July 19 at 2.00pm, arranged by Abraham's Funeral Home. Deep thanks to the expert and caring staff in Wellington Regional Hospital, the Mary Potter Hospice, and District Nursing & Care services and to Dr Thiruchelvam and Dr Dunphy. To Paul, K-K-K-Katy and your wider family. We all have such special memories of your mother from when we were neighbour's at Dome St, Invercargill. She was a wonderful gardener and took great care of her family and that huge section. Please accept our sincere condolences on the passing of a very special lady.
