I have great memories of Jimmy playing in the Southernaires Dance Band with my Brother Neville Bennett on drums at Thornbury Hall in the early 1960s.A really great guy who loved his music.

Jim has been a round for a long time you know, 1st spotted him at the Thornbury Dance when we were about 17, what we would call a showman back then, big smile all the moves with the sax..Then later in 74 with the Invercargill Pipe Band, he wrote all the drum music for the bass section and sides for the contest in Rotorua. Had the good fortune of playing with him a number of occasions on his stage, and like us all we don't last for ever. RIP Jimmy, job done, time to go home.

Jimmy was an inspiration to any musician who was fortunate to be included in his lineup. From woodwind to drums to vocals of some ditties he brought over from his home country he was always in demand.
He was a long time family friend and Godfather to our son. RIP Jimmy

One of the finest musicians ever to grace the stage. His lively banter and musical skiils were first class. i recall family parties at my parents home at Rodney St where Jimmy would turn up with tin whistle, or anything else he could lay his hands on to play. He was gifted with a golden tongue and was always the life of the party. Another legend has gone. Thank you Jimmy for your music - All our love, the Rodenburg family
