Remember Jim as a great family guy and who had great respect for his family. Good memories especially as a fatherinlaw of my brother Rob and his daughter Annette.
A keen bandsman, athletics coach with many other life involvements. Main memory was his work as a "caring electrician" on a job when Rob and Annette were building their house and his placement of power points - a trend setter that has in the main never been followed!
RIP Jim.

To the wider Annear family go my sincerest sympathy on Jim's passing. A stalwart of Southland Athletics officiating when I was running and later a great mentor when I took up starting. I recall how proud he was of his Commonwealth Games blazer from the Christchurch games. However it came to a sorry end the day he started me in a steeplechase event and then he obligingly put the hurdle onto the track after I had gone past its position. Unfortunately the friction caused by the hurdle rubbing against him set off most of a packet of starting caps he had in his pocket. I still remember hearing this almighty bang but as it was nearly 10 minutes before I finished running, Jim was long gone to seek medical treatment. I think he was actually more concerned for the blazer than any damage to himself.
I remember also, his dedication to Hilda for all those years after her stroke. Even taking her on that great trip through Britain (and Europe??) in her wheelchair. He was always the gentleman and will be so sadly missed.

Fond memories of working with your Dad at the Alliance freezing works all those years ago. He was a great practical tutor during my years as an apprentice electrician under him.
