To Adrienne & Family- I was deeply saddened to learn of Gordon's death. It's been many years that have elapsed since Mataura School days back in he 50's and later in the days at Gore High. Gus was in my class at Mataura School. I have many happy memories of those days and the friendships shared. I was happy to be able to catch up with Gus this year during an extended phone conversation delving back into the past 60 years since I left Mataura. I was also deeply moved to observe the funeral at the Mataura Rugby Club honouring his long association with Rugby in Southland.
Please accept my deepest sympathy,
David Wallace (Nelson)

Adrienne and family, we were greatly saddened to read this week of Gus's sudden passing. It is many years since we were in Southland but while there, Gus made an impact on us both. As a much younger Mataura school kid, I looked up to Gus, both in reality and figuratively, and saw him as a fine, well-respected man who has left his mark on his home community. Alister remembers him as a toiler, both on and off the rugby field. He enjoyed Gus's company when playing in the same team as him, rather than in opposing teams! Know that we are thinking of you at this time as you remember and mourn your dearly loved Gus.
