I was shocked and saddened to read in The Press on Saturday that Geoff had passed away. The preceding Sunday I was sitting beside him at the Wanaka Church and talking outside afterwards, when he seemed to be in good fettle despite the health issues that he had endured for years.
Geoff and I were friends from over 60 years ago when we both played rugby in the 1964 Otago University A side that won the Dunedin Club Championship. He was a very good running fullback as well as excelling at golf and various other sports. I felt very fortunate to enjoy his company so often over the last few years in Wanaka. I know that Blair Fitzharris will be able to expand on Geoff´s many other fine qualities in his eulogy today, drawing on an even longer history of friendship
I trust Geoff has now moved on to even better things and that time will diminish the sorrow your family and other friends will be feeling.
Kindest wishes
