Erwin CANNON Obituary

A cherished individual known for his kind, loving, caring, and humorous personality, left us on May 31, 2025; aged 77 years (born March 7, 1948). He will be greatly missed. Music was a large part of his life. Like most music lovers, he couldn't help himself but to sing or dance. He played with several bands including The Johnny Cooper Show Band, Dox Band, Sumting Different, The Doubletones and was always enthusiastically involved in the local music community wherever he lived. He also loved to play hockey, representing local clubs and regions in the south and transitioned this love to golf later in life. His long career in testing and biosecurity led him to be part of community projects long after he retired. Erwin had a bright, approachable personality with a wicked sense of humour and made many friends wherever he went or whatever he was involved in. He leaves behind children Victoria, Dave, and Jim, along with granddaughter Faith and her three children, his sister Julie and her children Toni, Nick, and Tracy. Erwin's funeral will be private but Erwin also wanted a party in celebration of his life. This will be music, drinks and stories held in the Southland Musicians Club, 33 Preston Street, Invercargill at 1.00pm on June 22. Any muso's welcome to bring instruments and play. Anyone touched by Erwin's life is welcome to attend.

I grew up with Erwin and have many memories of our childhood activities. He lived only a few minutes' walk away and we were the same year in primary and high school. I managed to make contact with him again after he retired although we didn't have regular contact.

Edwin, was great character, we had such fun while tb testing cows or dehorning calves with him. One day we were the last stop and he stayed for dinner. He took the wrong turn leaving and went up the cow lane. Only found that out last year when he come to visit. Rest easy Erwin.
