I have fond memories of my Great Aunty Doris. Trips to Timaru with Mum and Dad, we would always call in for a visit. Family functions over the years and getting our pet cockatiel (cocky) from them also. Lovely Lady, always had a smile and time for a chat.

In Loving Memory of Doris
Born 23 May 1934 - Passed 4 June 2025
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Doris, who left us peacefully surrounded by her loving family. Doris grew up on a farm in Southland as one of ten children - seven sisters and three brothers. Her earliest memories were of walking to school through frosty mornings, a testament to the hardy upbringing that shaped her resilient and warm spirit. She worked on the family farm until adulthood and later married at Knox Church in Invercargill to John de Wit, originally from the Netherlands. Together with her husband John, Doris raised four sons and cherished adventures in their caravan, often setting off on fishing trips. Doris believed in simple joys - time with family, the beauty of her garden, laughter and the love of her friends, family, particularly all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She treasured moments like meals with her sons and walks among daffodils, reminding us all to appreciate life's small wonders. A devoted mother, sister, and friend, Doris will be deeply missed but forever remembered for her kindness, strength, and love. A service to celebrate her life will be held at Betts Funeral Home, 33 North Timaru, on Wednesday, June 11 at 2.00pm. Survived by sons, Neil and Leah, Alistair and Diane, Barry and Liz, Chris and Karen and their respective families. Also acknowledging extended family in the Netherlands and Southland.
