Victor NORBURN Obituary
NORBURN, Victor Yorke May 3, 1924 – October 19, 2022 A very proud member of the 1st Canadian Armoured Carrier Regiment, which carried Canadian and British troops across the battlefields of France, The Netherlands, Belgium and Germany during WWII. Formed and disbanded offshore, this regiment had no Canadian base to come home to. It wasn't until 2011 that the Elgin Regiment and the wonderful people of St. Thomas, ON gave them a warm welcome home. FIRST ACROSS THE RHINE: March 26, 1945, at approximately 1:30 p.m., Trooper Vic Norburn, of "B" Squadron, drove the first Ram Kangaroo armoured personnel carrier of the regiment. across the river Rhine. The "Kangaroos" were the first regiment of the Canadian Armoured Corps to cross the river Rhine. Married to Julia Alice Collis (1948 to 1976) and Renee Ethel Bailey (1978 to 2003), he is survived by many loving family members from both marriages. A Class A auto mechanic for most of his working career, he found great satisfaction and enjoyment moving to the educational field later in his career. He taught auto shop classes at Morningstar High School in Malton, ON, and auto mechanic apprentices at Algonquin College in Ottawa, ON. Victor joined the Royal Canadian Legion in 1946 and really enjoyed his time at Branch 15 (Brampton, ON) and Branch 593 (Nepean, ON). He always looked forward to Friday's menu - Hot Dog and A Beer. Vic's family would like to gratefully recognize the wonderful and loving staff at the Perley Rideau Veterans Health Centre who always showed him great care, much affection, and afforded him dignity and grace in his final days. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Perley Rideau Veterans Health Centre or the Royal Canadian Legion would be welcome and appreciated. He will be missed. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Brampton Funeral Home & Cemetery (Chinguacousy and Bovaird) on Thursday, November 17, 2022, between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. The Funeral Service will start at 11 a.m. Following the Celebration and fellowship, the inurnment will take place in the cemetery.
